Down on the Farm: Luciano and Matos Monthly Splits

I think you will be excited to see a wider angle view of a couple of very exciting prospects with Low A San Jose, Marco Luciano SS and Luis Matos CF.  They are both 19 years old so age appropriate for the level.

Last night, Marco Luciano went 2 for 5 with a HR(16).  It's quite rare to see that kind of power out of a 19 yo hitter at any level.  Let's look at his monthly splits:

May:  .274/.330/.536, 5 HR, 84 AB.
June:  .287/.398/.584, 8 HR, 94 AB.
July:  .286/.412/.482, 3 HR, 56 AB.

Power down a bit so far in July but still some time to catch up, but look at the OBP progression.

Luis Matos went 3 for 5, 2 2B, HR(7).  BA= .309.  Overall Matos has not shown Luciano's power but has a higher BA with 16 SB's and seems fast enough to hold down CF at higher levels.

May:  .286/.309/.429, 2 HR, 4 SB, 91 AB.
June:  .308/.373/.440, 2 HR, 10 SB, 91 AB.
July:  .343/.357/.597, 3 HR, 2 SB, 67 AB.

The walk rate needs some work, but he's been so hot in July, why would he be taking walks?  I believe there is upside on the power which is already not terrible for a 19 yo.

  1. Luciano + Pomares + Matos could be a franchise altering class of signings. Probably my most untouchable prospects in the system.

    1. I agree. The next monthly splits should include Pomares who is having as good as a season as the other two . He only came up on June 15th.

  2. When Solano, Vosler, Estrada, Ruf, and Wade make IT happen 2 runs down and 2 outs in the top of the 9th, it confirms that it's not the lineup or the manager that makes it happen — it's the players with bats in their hands!
No Posey in that rally, no Belt, no Crawford, no Longoria, no Dickerson, no Duggar, no Slater, no Tauchman, no Yastrzemski, no La Stella, no Dubon!
Wow, what an unlikely team effort!
    Go figure.
This is not to say the manager, coaches, and the other players in the game did not help get the team to the point it could win. It always comes down to a team effort and no one plays TEAM better than the GIANTS! It's a magical season.
