Down on the Farm: 9/2/2012

AAA  Tacoma Rainiers pounded the Fresno Grizzlies 10-2:

Roger Kieschnick(DH)- 1 for 4, HR(15).  BA= .307.
Nick Noonan(SS)- 2 for 4.  BA= .297.
Boof Bonser(RHP)- 5 IP, 5 H 3 R, 3 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 4.50.
Clayton Tanner(LHP)- 1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 8.40.

Wonder what Roger K's final stat line would have looked like without the injury.  Tanner would appear to be done.  Wonder if the Giants will want to keep working with him next year?

AA  Akron Aeros at Richmond Flying Squirrels cancelled.

High A  San Jose Giants cracked the Modesto Nuts 8-3:

Shawn Payne(LF)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .600.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 4 for 4, 2B(30), HR(16).  BA= .263.
Joe Panik(SS)- 1 for 5.  BA= .298.
Ryan Bradley(LHP)- 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.90.
Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 3.62.
Jose Valdez(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA=2.83.

Woohoo Shawn Payne!  Ricky drove in 3 runs to bring his season total to 97 so he still has a chance for 100 on the season with 1 game to go.  Panik's drive to .300 stalled.  Could he still do it with a 3 or 4 hit game today?  I'm still pretty high on Jose Valdez who the Giants should put on the 40 man roster this winter.

Low A  Charleston River Dogs defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 5-1:

Tyler Hess(RHP)- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.51.

I like Tyler Hess.  He's a big body from Sonoma St.  He spent a couple of years in the Braves organization.  He was apparently released despite putting up decent numbers.  Hope to see him pitching from the bullpen in San Jose next year.  His season line for AZ and Augusta:  1-1, 2.22, 24.1 IP, 5 H, 26 K, GO/AO= 1.59.  Not sure the point of bringing Crick in from the bullpen in the next to last game of the season.

Short Season  NWL regular season completed on 9/1.  Playoffs start tomorrow without the Volcanoes.

  1. Crick needed 2.1 inning to qualify for the era title. However, he could only give up only 1 run in those innings and it looks like he blew it, too bad. Good year for SAL pitching, awful year for SAL hitting minus Payne. Thanks for all your hard work DrB

  2. I went to the San Jose game on Saturday. The starter, Kelvin Marte, worked in the high 80's with his fastball. I was very impressed by Edward Concepcion's mound presence; he seemed to have a lot of "swagger" and confidence. Stephen Harrold also hit 94 on the gun out of the bullpen.

    1. If Concepcion can ever find consistent command, he'll be a good one. Potential setup man/Closer.

  4. Shawn "All I do is get on Base" Payne!!! He definitely did that!!! The organization wont make any fast decisions on him but after the season he's had in SK 11 then Augusta 12 (Player of the Week & Postseason Allstar) & jump to San Jose for the remaining 2 regular season games & he's getting the starting nod for Playoffs, Plus the performance he showed the 1st day anybody really seen him & 1st impressions are EVERYTHING... HAPPY FOR PAYNE, ESPECIALLY BEING A 35TH ROUND DRAFT PICK!!!

    1. I"m definitely a Shawn Payne fan myself. He's gonna have to prove it at each level, but I guess they all do when you think about it.

    1. Of all the things to pick on Baer about, Bacci, that is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Ha! Larry Baer, the Managing Partner of one of the most successful franchises in professional sports, is a bum for letting the Vice President of Baseball Operations represent the team in Fresno, of all places, instead of insisting on going himself. Come on, Bacci, that is just laughable!

I guess I'd have to say I knew Baer wouldn't go to Fresno either, since the thought never entered my mind that he SHOULD go!

    2. sorry doc,

neukom went in 2008 and 10, part of the overall philosophy change

baer is better than bow tie? dont think so

its about appearance, appreciation and org philosophy

    3. I say it doesn't matter one wit. Bobby Evans is fine as a representative for the Giants. I never said Baer was better than Bowtie but I don't think Bowtie was really a major factor in the overall philosophy or direction of the franchise. I liked that Bowtie codified the Giants Way into a written philosophy, but that was merely a written expression of a philosophy that was already in place.
