Martin Agosta, RHP. DOB: 4/7/1991. 6'1", 180 lbs.
A+: 5-9, 4.25, 106 IP, 10.61 K/9, 2.21 BB/9, 15 HR Allowed, GO/AO= 0.70.
Agosta accomplished his primary goal for 2015 which was to stay healthy all season. He also put up very impressive K and BB numbers while pitching in the hitter-friendly Cal League. The Cal League got it's piece of flesh though as the longball bit him hard. If there is a silver lining here, it's that a lot of the damage occurred outside his home stadium as his home ERA was 3.10 with 6 HR's Allowed in 52.1 IP while his Away ERA was 5.37 with 9 HR's Allowed in 53.2 IP. San Jose Municipal Stadium is quite neutral and actually hostile to LH batters while several other Cal League venues are real launching pads.
Agosta would seem to be a crossroads here. He should get promoted to AA Richmond and the entire Eastern League is pitcher friendly. He can build on his great K/BB or he can continue to get bombed by the dingerz. Hard to say what his ceiling is or his ETA to the majors. If he can stay healthy and control the dingerz, he can probably be a #3 MLB SP. ETA would be 2018 under that scenario. He seems like he could end up in a MLB bullpen although relievers who give up dingerz don't usually last too long.

Any idea what his velo is sitting at these days?
ReplyDeleteNo, but from the K rate, I would guess it's pretty good.
