Erik Cordier(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(1).  ERA= 3.47.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels outscored the Harrisburg Senators 8-6:

Steven Okert(LHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, Save(3).  ERA= 0.00.

Kelby Tomlinson is having an interesting season putting up elite SB numbers.  His bat seems to be coming along too.  He is 8 for his last 16 and hitting .344 over his last 10 games.  He hit .270 in May and .250 in June.  No power!

High A  San Jose Giants crushed the Modesto Nuts 10-2:

Brandon Bednar(1B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .333.
Ben Turner(Catcher)- 3 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .296.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets edged the Rome Braves 3-2:

Luis Castillo(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.62.

The dingers by Tuntland and Moreno were back-to-back and broke up a no-hitter in the 7'th inning.

Short Season  Vancouver Canadians scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 8'th inning to top the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6-4:

Christian Arroyo(SS)- 3 for 4, BB.  BA= .286.
Will Callaway(3B)- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .286.
Travious Relaford(DH)- 3 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .260.
Andrew Leenhouts(LHP)- 6.2 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 2.88.

Arroyo seems to be finally getting some traction at the plate.

Rookie AZL  Giants vs Rangers suspended after 2.5 innings with the Giants leading 1-0.

Monsoon season is already starting in Arizona?

DSL  Giants rolled over the Rojos(Reds) 12-2:

Mikey Edie(CF)- 3 for 4, 3B, BB, SB(11).  ERA= .318.
Robert Antunez(2B)- 4 for 5.  BA= .259.
Olbis Parra(RHP)- 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 1.64.

Edie just keeps on impressing.  Tools-O-Rama!  Right now, I have him as the #1 position prospect in the system and possibly #1 overall!

  1. I guess I started my prospect rankings too early. Edie should be much higher than 23! All of a sudden, there are some serious international prospects to follow. That big 1B Pena they just signed looks like he could have an interesting bat as well.

    1. Power is a tool. Swing is a skill. Skills can be taught. Tools cannot.

  2. It's way too early and premature to rank a guy as a number one position prospect AND number one overall after playing for a short time in the lowest of all leagues...the DSL. I remember you wanted to rank Muela number 1 as well, and how'd that work out for you? He's doing well, but definitely not number 1 or even top 10. Not yet. You don't need to prematurely rank prospects. Let them develop and then let them EARN the spot.

    1. Current level and performance do contribute to rankings, but so does ceiling. Edie has both ceiling and performance. The only part lacking is level. It's interesting that on one hand you have the MCC'ers loudly complaining that the Giants upper minors are a "nuclear wasteland" and here you are complaining that a guy like Edie is not at a high enough level to rank highly in the system.

Just for fun, why don't you tell me what position prospect(s) you would rank higher right now.

    2. Andrew Susac I would think would be up there. Possibly Christian arroyo with his recent surge in short season ball. For some people Matt Duffy and his eye opening performance in double A.

    3. Love Susac's bat, dude has not been able to stay healthy and he loses a lot of value if he has to move from behind the plate. Arroyo appears to have a solid hit tool, but will likely end up at 2B. Duffy may have a case because it looks like he might be able to play SS at the MLB level. None of those guys has the 5 tool ceiling that Edie is showing.

    4. While they are hurt, I would also rank Mac and Cabrera above Edie. Edie is just too young and too unknown to put at the head of the line.

Dont get me wrong, he looks solid, but he came in with little to no fanfare and is only doing well in (as opposed to crushing) the DSL. Aren't you the one who always preaches to us not to read too much into age-vs-level?

    5. I have always said that age is most important in the DSL where if you are over 18, it probably means you have no chance.

Cabrera's injury is quite possibly career ending and I would not even rank him until I see him play effectively again. Mac Williamson would deserve consideration to be ranked above Edie.

    6. I would also point out that Edie was not exactly an unknown when the Giants signed him. He had played in the Dominican Prospect League and in showcase events. He is actually performing better, earlier and at a younger age than Gustavo Cabrera at the same level.
