DrB's 2013 Giants Top 50 Prospect List #48: Steven Neff

Steven Neff, LHP.  DOB: 2/24/1989.  6'2", 195 lbs.  B-L, T-L.

Low A:  5-1, 3.81, 75.2 IP, 29 BB, 86 K, GO/AO= 1.42, 1 Save.

I have to admit I don't know a whole lot about Neff.  He was drafted in the 41'st round in 2011 out of South Carolina. Things I like about Neff:  Lefthandedness, size, K/9, groundball tendency, healthy number of IP in 2012.  On the downside, he's a bit old and maybe gives up just a tad too many walks.  Looks like a possible sleeper  deep in the system.  Will probably pitch in the same role in San Jose in 2013 which would be an excellent way to continue his development.

  1. When you are drafted in the 41st round and you make it to the top 50 list after one year, you are making progress.

Hope to see him make more progress in the future.

    1. I don't know if there are any roster spots available to these guys, but I'm going to say Jose Valdez is going to leave an impression. Cole Gillespie and Tanaka have the best chances of winning roster spots.

Ricky's mom is excited and very happy for Ricky getting invited to big league camp.

    2. With AnVil getting un-restricted, that closes out the 40-man roster.

With Ramirez and Tanaka having better than 50/50 chances of breaking camp, who gets the DFA? Rosario? Gillaspie? Petit? Machi? Abreu?

  3. RHP Mitch Lively is a great Mid Relief pitcher, Pitch at Triple-A Fresno and this may be his year.
