Most of the first two months of the season saw the Giants with absolutely nothing going right. Suddenly we see a team hitting on all 12 cylinders and wow! The lineup hit 7 home runs as they scored double-digit runs for the third time in 6 games in a blowout win over the Cubs. Key Lines:
Casey Schmitt LF/SS- 4 for 6, 2 HR(15), 3 R, 3 RBI. BA= .293. Schmitt sure looks like he is having a true breakout season. Did Heliot Ramos just get Wally Pipped?
Rafael Devers 1B- 2 for 5, 2B, R, RBI. BA= .243. After a hot May, Devers had cooled off in June but he joined the fun in this one.
Luis Arraez 2B- 2 for 5, 2B, SF, 2 R, RBI. BA= .326. Arraez gets his obligatory two hits. This was his 24'th multi-hit game of the season.
Willy Adames SS- 2 for 2, 2 HR(11), 2 BB, 4 R, 4 RBI. BA= .250. And just like that, Adames is on track for a 30 HR season. He has 4 in his last 6 games.
Bryce Eldridge DH- 2 for 5, 2 R. BA= .293. Eldridge is batting .481 over his last 7 games and .392 over his last 15. Looks like we finally have a Giants hitting prospect who will live up to the prospect hype.
There will be a lot of competition of course, but how does the Prospect Promotion Incentive work, and could Eldridge or Susac, or both net the Giants an extra draft pick in the next draft? It would be nice especially since they are getting blocked out of a top ten pick next season.
ReplyDeleteI've been a Casey Schmidt fan from the time he 1st came up, it's been so fun to see how far he's come as a player to have a true breakout season he's having. Right now. I like how Bryce Eldridge has come up and grabbed the opportunity given him to play and show what he can do. In MLB. Can't believe he's only 21 years old, and has a bright future. I'd like to see more of Jonah Cox. Happy to see him have a good day, 3 hits including his 1st Homer, doesn't matter he got it off a position player.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! After seeing the Giants get 12 runs off the Brewers and 20 against the Cubs, they look like a whole new team.
ReplyDeleteWalking around Chicago after the game we couldn't walk past anyone without getting a comment from the frustrated Cubs fans. What a great baseball city. Latest thought, start Jonah Cox in CF. Use Drew Gilbert as a late inning defensive replacement and pinch runner (or send him to the minors when Bader comes back.
Can this season be salvaged, I doubt it but, to finally see talent from the farm being able to rise to the challenge is how the culture gets changed.
ReplyDeleteGood to see the younger players doing well.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, this season is all about finding the silver linings. Would help if Devers would get back to normal.
My biggest concern for the future is where the good pitchers are going to come from . . .
