Trevor McDonald was a gamer for 5.1 innings falling two outs short of a Quality Start and the bullpen shut down the Braves the rest of the way, but the lineup came up short going 0 for 8 with RISP including a brutal 5'th inning when Bryce Eldridge struck out with the bases loaded and one out followed by Casey Schmitt's ground out. Key Lines:
Trevor McDonald RHP- 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, 8/4 GO/AO. ERA= 4.94. McDonald was a lot sharper than his last start which is a low bar. He had better command of his 2-seamer and a really nice looking changeup. The Braves kind of pecked away at him. At one point Duane Kuiper commented that the Giants were losing the 90 foot game.
Adrian Houser RHP- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 4/2 GO/AO. ERA= 5.53. Not sure if Houser was calling his own pitches but he commented that he wished he knew he could before he got demoted to the bullpen. He looked sharp in multiple innings in this game.
4 of the Giants 7 hits were doubles by Luis Arraez 2B, Rafael Devers 1B, Bryce Eldridge DH and Willy Adames SS.
Logan Webb RHP tries to even the weekend series this evening facing Bryce Elder RHP who comes in with an ERA of 3.71.

DeleteAfter a brutal loss, when major league players fail abysmally, Eldridge and Schmitt to name two who had "ducks on the pond" and chances to score some runs more than once, plus Chapman to an extent, and they just plain don't do it, the manager has to say something, has to put some lipstick on the pig, and Vitello stumble-mumbles his way, it's never a good picture.

Vitello hasn't learned how to do that. He didn't have a lot of practice doing that in Tennessee.

Come on, if he can't even talk what the heck is doing here? Becasue he sure as hell can't manage the line up, or the club house, and has no contacts upon which to build a staff. Other than that, he is totally qualified! Gezz, what a screwed up organization!

DeleteWith Cavanaugh getting his debut last night, the Giants have had three catchers make their MLB debut this year. I have done some light research (and used multiple LLMs) and can’t find a single example of this ever happening before.

Interesting. Unique for sure. (Way back when, a lot of teams would carry 3 catchers, lessening the need for rookie call-ups) Anyway, Cavanaugh might be the best of the 3.
