Jason Foley RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 4.61.
Tidwell has a 3.42 ERA in June and brought his ERA down from a peak of 6.75 after his May 27 Start. Something I did not realize: Jason Foley is not on a rehab assignment and hasn't been since May 12 when he was assigned to AAA Sacramento. He's still down there because he hasn't pitched well with an ERA of 9.00 in the month of June.
AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Akron Rubber Ducks 8-7.

It seems like a down year for the Giants DSL teams mostly because they put all their eggs in the Luis Hernandez basket and he's up in the ACL. Jose Valdez is one 17 yo who seems to be finding traction in the DSL.
Jack Choate quietly has a good season every season

ReplyDeleteOf course! Any reasonable person would but do you want to close the door on that possiblity? I do agree he might be a better bullpen option this season than most of the current bullpen, but the Giants were very intentional about sending him to AAA to continue developing as a SP. There must have been some reason for that.
DeleteFoley is still listed in the 60 day IL on their website. They would’ve had to of made a corresponding move on the 40 man roster if he wasn’t on the IL.
ReplyDeleteIDK. The Transactions log on Foley's bio page says he was activated to the AAA roster on May 12.
DeleteI feel like we have 7-8 inhouse rotation options for next year especially if Webb is still a Giant by then. None of them are future aces at first glance but we have seen some bursts of success from each of them and enough have options that they could let it be a bit of an open competition for the last 2-3 spots in the rotation to see if there is anyone that steps up.
ReplyDeleteIf they don’t spend on SP’s in free agency this offseason I feel like it may make a lot of sense to invest as much as possible into the bullpen. Sign 2-3 closers and another 2-3 high leverage guys and make that the strength of our pitching staff. Pressure is reduced for the starters if they only have to go 5 innings. Good starters are a huge investment and bullpen guys can be had on shorter term deals. We have seen first hand how important it is to close out games and how little it matters who starts them if you can’t close em!
How right you are: it matters little who starts (games) if you can’t close em!
