Down on the Farm: 5/27/2026

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats downed Reno Aces 12-5.

Scott Bandura LF- 0 for 5, 5 K's.  BA= .200.
Drew Cavanaugh C- 4 for 4, 2 HR(4), BB.  BA= .429.
Grant McCray CF- 2 for 4, 3B, BB.  BA= .244.
Turner Hill RF- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .337.
Blade Tidwell RHP- 4 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 6.75.
Jason Foley RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 0.00.
Dylan Smith RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.93.
Trent Harris RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 5.02.
Marques Johnson RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.05

Scott Bandura, Yikes!  Cavanaugh continues his tear.  Lefty batting catchers can really help the matchup game...if they can actually hit.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels blanked the Akron Rubber Ducks 3-0.

Maui Ahuna SS- 2 for 2, 2B, BB.  BA= .241.
Matt "Tugboat" Wilkinson LHP- 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.87.
Will Bednar RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.63.

Is "Tugboat" the steal of the Patrick Bailey trade?  Don't forget the Giants also got a first round draft pick.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds outscored the Vancouver Canadians 10-7.

Zander Darby 1B- 1 for 3, HR(6), 2 BB.  BA= .324.
Jancel Villaroel C- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .265.
Carlos Gutierrez LF- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(4), SB(12).  BA= .259.
Jean Carlos Sio 2B- 2 for 4, HR(4).  BA= .378.
Ryan Vanderhei RHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.80.

Big game for Carlos Gutierrez who I thought looked really tooled up playing for San Jose last season.  He got off to a slow start this year. Maybe this game will be the start of a break out?

A:  Fresno Grizzlies edged out the San Jose Giants 3-2.

Broedy Poppell RF- 1 for 3, HR(3).  BA= .232.
Jordan Gottesman LHP- 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's, 5/1 GO/AO.  ERA= 2.77.

Nice bounceback after a subpar start for Gottesman who was the first pitcher the Giants drafted in 2025.

ACL:  Giants were idle.

  1. I could see the Giants marketing dept have some fun when Tugboat makes MLB. I bet they come up with some creative ideas!

  2. Tidwell continues to look more like a reliever than a starter. Possible closer.

  3. It's been a month for upper-minors starting LHPs with last names in the "Wh-Wi" range!

  4. Juan Carlos Sio! What a season he's having in returning to A+ after getting a taste in 2025. He seems to continue to outperform with very decent peripherals too.

With Kilan eventually moving to 2B, in one likely scenario...where is JCS's best landing spot defensively??
