The offense ran through Patrick Bailey as the Giants scored just enough to support the sparkling pitching of Landen Roupp and four relievers. Key Lines:
Christian Koss 3B- 2 for 4, R. BA= .241. The Giants lineup managed just 6 hits. Christian had 2.
Patrick Bailey C- 1 for 3, 3B, BB, R, 2 RBI. BA= .192. Bailey drew a walk to lead off the third inning. He advanced to 2B on Rafael Devers DH(.270) walk then scored on Wilmer Flores 1B(.243) double to tie the score at 1. Then in the 6'th inning Bailey tripled after a walk to Adames and a single by Koss to drive in the two runs that were the difference in the game.
Landen Roupp RHP- 5.1 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K's, 6/3 GO/AO. ERA= 3.43. Roupp looked like he wouldn't last long in the first inning as he had 4 balls in a row roasted. The run may have been unearned on an error charged to Willy Adames, and while I am sure Willy would say he should have had it, it as smoked. Not sure what Statcast would say the hit probability was on that one but I bet it was high. Roupp settled down and did not allow another run into the 6'th inning. I was thinking about things like innings limits as I watched him pitch. He is old school in that it looks like he is out there playing an easy game of catch with a the catcher. He has a very upright, low-effort delivery not unlike what you might see with a knuckeballer. He depends on pitch movement and location to get his outs. He may be able to keep pitching like this deep into the season as opposed to a higher effort pitcher with the same number of innings last season.
Bullpen- 3.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. Ryan Walker RHP(4.13) finished up the 6'th inning after a leadoff single and groundout. Randy Rodriguez RHP(0.75), Tyler Rogers RHP(1.64) and Camilo Doval RHP(2.70) brought it home with Doval earning his 13'th Save.
The other thought I had while watching Dan Altavilla RHP work the 9'th inning for the White Sox is fringy relievers often have long careers in MLB.
Robbie Ray LHP tries to keep the winning going today in a 1:10 PM PDT start facing Adrian Houser RHP who comes in with a 2.27 ERA.
