5 Bold Predictions for 2024

It's Bold Prediction time as we celebrate Opening Day.  Here are 5 for the San Francisco Giants:

1.  Jung Hoo Lee scores 100 runs.  This should not be too hard if he stays healthy and bats leadoff all season but would be a huge upgrade for the Giants.  For reference, there were 17 players who scored 100 runs or more in MLB last year.  Lamonte Wade Jr. led the Giants with 64 Runs in 2023.

2.  Matt Chapman hits 25 HR and wins a Gold Glove at 3B.  Again, very doable. He hit 27 in 2021 and 2022.  He slipped to 17 last season but reportedly had a sore finger through the second half of the season.

3.  Tom Murphy hits 20 HR.  His previous career high is 18.  He'll have to be the starting C to do this but I expect him to lead the Giants in innings and PA's out of the catcher position.

4.  At some point the Giants will use a 6-man rotation in 2024.  The Giants have some depth at SP but several pitchers who need to limit their innings for one reason or another.  Going to a 6-man rotation is one way to accomplish this without shelving a valuable asset.

5.  Blake Snell finishes the season with more Wins and a lower ERA than Yoshi Yamamoto at a fraction of the cost.

What is your Bold Prediction for the Giants in 2024?

Oh, and **** the Dodgers!

Want to wish Doc and the community HNY!
(Opening Day is the true beginning of the year - not a cold, dark, short rainy/snowy day in the middle of Winter.)

  5. Grandson of the Wind is going to win ROY

  6. 1. Harrison wins ROY
    2. Thairo stays healthy all year en route to a 20/20 season
    3. Soler becomes first Giant to hit 30HRs since Bonds
    4. Giants enter the last 15 games of the year with Wild Card implications and control their own destiny

    And…

    5. MLB covers for Ohtani’s betting but the story lingers all year, Yamamoto has some glimpses of greatness but finishes with a meager 4.10 era, Will Smith gets injured and doesn’t finish the season on the dodgers active roster, the dodgers get bounced in the playoffs after kershaw gives up 6 runs in 2+ innings in his only 1st round start

    Andy in OC

  7. Bart (wherever he is) has a better year with the bat than Bailey.

  8. The Giants make the POs as a WC and FZ wins NL GM of the year..........if ....he solves the bullpen, especially the Left Side, which has the potential of torpedoing the season...With SANCHEZ being sent down, looks like it's Rogers and Miller from the RHS now...Yikes

Land Roup and/or Winn will provide the Giants with a solid 5th starter until the injured (Cobb, Ray) come back (or if they don't!)

Thario Estrade and Logan Webb--All Stars

Soler doesn't hit over 25 home runs but will be a potent bat in a lineup that has it's struggles

Not much on numbers, but both Harrison (Top 3 in ROY) and Hicks will have very good years, although they will be cained often

Chapman will hit 19 HRS with a .222 average

  9. All 2023 shortcomings — including manager — patched and the Team won't quit until season's end, will be 2nd WC in NL, then sweep to the win
Baily starts Game 1 (not a prediction)

  10. Not a prediction - fact:
The Giants will carry 3 catchers to begin the season, while Nick Ahmed prevailed over Luciano in the shortstop competition

  11. Both Luciano and Matos (guess Slater is healthy enough?) optioned, takes away some of the excitement factor, but they will be back...AHMED as the SS is another huge hole like the LHRP....I guess FITZ is the backup IF/SS/OF??

ROUP has been selected and I am excited about that one...Also, MILLER recalled which seemsl ike the rigth moven given what the Giants have. He will be thrown into the fire big time

    Haven't seen anything on BART/BAILEY or WINN/JEFFRIES....

  12. Conforto turns into a platoon player with Luciano in LF.
Matos establishes himself as a big league corner outfielder after injuries to Yaz and Slater.
Fitz gets increased time at SS as Ahmed slows in the 2nd half.
Schmitt gets in a hitting groove in AAA, becomes a valuable infield backup and challenges for starting SS time at the major league level.
Bart sticks in San Francisco; Bailey gets sent down to work on his bat.
When Cobb and Ray become entrenched in the starting rotation and injuries hit the bullpen, Hicks moves to a swing/setup reliever.
