Spring Training Game Wrap 3/7/2023: Reds 7 Giants 3

Kyle Harrison LHP got knocked around in his first try at a starter role in spring training and the Giants couldn't catch up.

Young Kyle gave up 5 ER in 1.2 IP.  He did not finish the first inning due to pitch count limit but came back out for the 2'nd(as allowed by spring training rules) to pitch a complete inning.  No worries.  From what I can recall, it seems like Matt Cain and Bummy had their spring struggles when they were still prospects too.

Michael Conforto DH- 1 for 3, HR(2).  BA= .286.  Giants announced Conforto is ready to start playing in the field.

Isan Diaz 2B- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .333.  Diaz was only 2 for 9 before this game.  Things can turn around quickly in spring training.

Casey Schmitt 3B- 2 for 3, 3B.  BA= .467.  Is any Giant having a better spring than Casey Schmitt?  He's absolutely raked at every level and is doing it in spring training to boot.  Is his time sooner than we think?

Roberto Perez C- 1 for 3.  BA= .143.  Perez has now started two games in a row at C.  It that a tea leaf?

Tristan Beck RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 5.14.   Beck got knocked around in his last appearance, a start.  He was dominant in relief here but he was facing scrubs in the last two innings.

Anthony DeSclafani RHP gets his second spring start against Team USA tomorrow evening.

  1. Well, I've been following the minors and spring training for 40+ years. Everybody single pitcher that's ever stepped on the mounds has gotten shelled at least once. Comes with the territory. So it's hard to worry about 1.2 innings in spring training.

  2. Good on Desclafani against team USA that's an all star line up he faced.
