If you think the Giants have way more OF prospects than they'll every be able to use, add another one to the long list. Alexander Suarez CF, who reportedly is the cousin of another Giants CF prospect, Luis Matos, is making some noise in the Arizona Complex League. He was signed out of Venezuela in 2018 then only played 12 games in the DSL in 2019 before a season-ending injury, but slashed .308/.472/.487 in 53 PA.

Down on the Farm: Alexander Suarez CF
After COVID wiped out his 2020 season, Suarez resurfaced in Arizona at age 19. He got off to a good start slashing .312/.376/.468 in July and found another gear in August going .385/.429/.744. Overall he's slashing .336/.394/560 with 5 HR's 2 triples and 10 SB's in 127 PA. Of concern is just 6 BB's and 40 K's. He's listed at 6'2" 160 lbs which suggests he has a lot of room to fill out.

Pomares got promoted and went 3 for 4 with a double and an assist!
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or are the Giants more loaded with really young, near-blue-chip hitting prospects now than ever before in memory?
ReplyDeleteLuis Matos (19), this Suarez fella (19), Heliot Ramos (21), Jairo Pomarez (21), Hunter Bishop (23), Marco Luciano (19), Joey Bart (24)...I'm sure I'm missing one or two here, but honestly I'm almost expecting every single one of these guys to graduate to the Majors and contribute. That's rare, but these guys have great profiles and are making the right moves down in the minors!
I did not feel this way with Nate Schierholtz's class of prospects!
The Giants have a strong farm system, particularly on the offensive side. One caution is that Hunter Bishop and Patrick Bailey are off to such slow starts to their pro careers as to cause concern for bust potential.
DeleteMy take on Hunter Bishop is he's been constantly hurt and can't stay on the field, so I don't know what to make of him. He's only had 45 abs in 2021, and 150 abs in 2019. He needs to play more otherwise he'll be a bust. Bailey is hitting better in low A San Jose with a 287 BA. Maybe the high A placement coming off no minor league season in 2020, and being his 1st season in pro ball was too aggressive a placement? I like his profile as a strong defense catcher, good arm, but the hit tool will need development. Not too concerned about him.
DeleteDo the Giant have a new Ace?
ReplyDeleteIs it Logan Webb?
SF is 10-1 in his last 11 starts, he's 6-0, 60.1 IP, 42 H, 13 W, 65 SO, 11 ER, 5 consecutive Quality Starts (9 in all).
He's had 1 bad start in 17, 1 Hold in his only non-starting appearance.
Giants are 14-4 in his appearances.
By contrast, Giants are 16-8 in Gausman's 24 starts.
Is Yaz producing more than Duggar?
ReplyDeleteDuggar has an option. I do not think Yaz has one.
DeleteI was expecting this decline from Yaz last year. I think he will get better next year, but last year may have been his best.
Giants 2, A's 1
ReplyDeleteI'm a believer!
Just not posting anymore?
ReplyDeleteSad. Team is doing so well, nowhere to discuss....
A bit of writer's block and a bit of "life" getting in the way. Sorry. Will post when I have something to say.
DeleteHow about them Giants, though?
