Have you ever gotten the feeling that a game you were watching on TV needed less of your involvement in it? Got home a bit late tonight, just in time to see Mark Ellis break a 0-0 tie in the 3'rd inning with a 2 run HR off Mike Kickham who had been perfect for 2 innings. Took the dog for a walk and returned to a 2-2 tie just in time to see Hanley Ramirez hit the LF foul pole for another 2 run dinger. When it got to 6-2, I decided to take the trash out and fill up the wife's car with gas. Got back with the score 6-3 and watched until the 9'th. I decided to look up the minor league scores while waiting for the game to end, took a peek at Gameday and saw it was 6-4 with no outs and a runner on 2B. Went back to the TV, well, and you know the rest. A very exciting finish did not go the Giants way. Key Lines:
Brandon Belt- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(8). BA= .264. Now THAT is what we used to see down in the minors!
Buster Posey- 1 for 3, HR(9), BB. BA= .308. The top 4 batters in the lineup went a combined 1 for 13 with 2 BB's and Buster's dinger being the only hit.
Mike Kickham- 5.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 10.57. Kickham hung around a bit longer tonight than his first start. Made a couple of mistakes but again showed MLB quality stuff. He was particularly impressive against Yasiel Puig. Another learning experience but if he continues this learning curve, he could be a regular in the rotation next year. Oh, and he ditched the goggles!
With the loss, the Giants remained in 4'th place, 3.5 games behind the NL West leading D'Backs who lost to the Nationals 7-5. The Rockies lost to the Red Sox 11-4 while the Padres lost to the Phillies 6-2 so those two teams remain tied for 2'nd place, 3 games behind the D'Backs. The Last Place Dodgers gained a game to 7 back.
Tim Lincecum faces Clayton Kershaw in tomorrow night's finale trying to avoid the sweep, always a tough assignment against The Kershaw.
