Down on the Farm: 6/5/2013

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies were idle.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the New Britain Rock Cats 3-2:

Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B, 3B.  BA= .313.
Andrew Susac(C)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .275.
Ryan Lollis(DH)- 2 for 3.  BA= .290.
Jack Snodgrass(LHP)- 7.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.04.
Daryl Maday(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(12).  ERA= 2.45.

High A  Modesto Nuts topped the San Jose Giants 5-1:

Devin Harris(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .263.
Eric Surkamp(LHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Edwin Escobar(LHP)- 4 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.62.
Bryce Bandilla(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.94.

Great to see Eric Surkamp on the rehab trail.  Bumping the regular starter to make room for a rehabber is something that generally happens only for MLB level players.  I think that says something about how the organization views Surkamp.  This will be most interesting to follow!

Low A  Greensboro Grasshoppers squeezed past the Augusta Greenjackets 2-1:

Mitch Delfino(3B)- 2 for 4, HR(7).  BA= .246.
Kendry Flores(RHP)- 8 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.00.

Second game in a row for Delfino to hit a dinger.  He has a 4 game hit streak in which he is 6 for 16.  Flores got Cained here.  He now has 51 K's against just 13 BB's in 63 IP.  He has a strong flyball tendency.

DSL  Giants beat the Reds 4-2:

Royel Astacio(3B, 19 yo)- 2 for 4.  BA= .200.
Robinson Medrano(DH, 17 yo)- 1 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .250.
Kleiber Rivas(C, 18 yo)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .500.
Jonathan Loaisiga(RHP, 18 yo)- 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 8/3.  ERA= 1.80.
Jose Morel(RHP, 19 yo)- 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.25.

Morel is a holdover who had a line of 0-1, 8.71, 10.1 IP, 13 BB, 7 K's last year.

  1. GREAT GREAT GREAT to see Kamp on the bump. If he can progress through the system over the next month to 6 weeks, I can see him getting he #4/5 spot. That would be about e same time Vogey getting back as well, so I could see Gaudin AND Timmeh getting bumped to the pen.

    Good times!!

May not bode well for Kontos or Mijares, though.

    1. Surkamp is nice, but I don't see the Giants pushing Lincecum to the pen to accomodate Surkamp. Maybe if Lincecum is still struggling in August, but that's a long time from now still, much can still happen before then.

But yes, great to see Surkamp pitching again. Say, didn't the Giants bump him to the 60 day DL to make space for someone on the 40-man roster? Don't they have to put him back on the 40-man to allow him to do rehab? Or do they count rehab as being on the DL until he's deemed "OK"? That don't make sense to me, but the MLB do have arcane rules.

Interesting that he bumped a regular starter, that does seem to indicate per css that the Giants are trying to be aggressive in preparing him to return him to MLB action, and per DrB the high view the organization has of him. I thought he did OK in his first start for us, he just faltered afterward.

    2. I think a player can remain on the DL for a certain period while rehabbing. Not sure what the limit is.

  2. I wasn't necessarily saying that Timmeh goes to the pen to accommodate Kamp. More that Kamp gets the rotation spot to accommodate Timmeh's performance.

I do not have a super-high expectation of Kamp. Let me be clear on that. Just that we have NOTHING that s ready to step in and help with the rotation right now, so a guy who was ready 2 years ago, but has been shelved due to injury is better than nothing.
