Tyler Myrick RHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(4).  ERA= 4.15.

AA:  Hartford Yard Goats destroyed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 15-1(game 1 of doubleheader- 7 innings):

As you can imagine, NTSH.  Luis Toribio pitched 1.1 scoreless innings mopping up.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels edged out the Hartford Yard Goats 2-1(game 2 of doubleheader- 8 innings):

Ismael Munguia CF- 1 for 2, 2 BB.  BA= .297.
Nick Morreale RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 0.77.
Wil Jensen RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.86.

Nick Morreale probably deserves a little more prospect love.

A+:  Vancouver Canadians topped the Eugene Emeralds 5-4:

Scott Bandura RF- 2 for 5.  BA= .234.
Bryce Eldridge 1B- 2 for 4, 3B, BB.  BA= .312.
Luke Shliger C- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(2).  BA= .350.
Dylan Carmouche LHP- 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.60.

A:  Inland Empire 66'er's came from behind to nip the San Jose Giants 8-7(10 innings):

Game Wrap 8/10/2024: Giants 3 Tigers 1

A 3-run 5'th inning was all the run support Logan Webb and two Giants relievers needed to take game 2 of the weekend series against the Tigers.  Key Lines:

Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 1 for 3, BB, 2 SB(12).  BA= .313.  When your leadoff better gets on base twice and steals 2 bases you expect him to score at least one run, except in the Giants lineup.

Brett Wisely 2B- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .257.  Wisely accounted for all 3 of the Giants runs with 2-RBI's on his double and then scoring on a single by Heliot Ramos, all in the pivotal 5'th inning.

Logan Webb RHP- 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K's.  ERA= 3.32.  Webb is a Quality Start machine.  Just for fun I counted up the Giants record this season when their SP give them a Quality Start:  26-9.

Ryan Walker RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, Save(1).  ERA= 2.20.  Walker's debut as the Giants Closer produced some torture but he got out of it with 2 sweet K's to end the game.  We'll chalk it up to some jitters in a new role.

With the Win, the Giants close to within 1.5 games of the last Wild Card playoff spot.

Hayden Birdsong RHP tries to keep the playoff push going tomorrow afternoon facing Keider Montero RHP, a rookie who had a QS last time out against the Mariners.

Down on the Farm: 8/9/2024

AAA:  Albuquerque Isotopes outscored the Sacramento River Cats 12-11:

Wade Meckler RF- 2 for 6, 2B, SB(1). BA= .324.
Luis Matos LF- 2 for 6.  BA= .243.
Grant McCray CF- 1 for 5, 3B, BB.  BA= .278.
Brett Auerbach C- 2 for 4, SF.  BA= .303.
Donovan Walton 2B- 0 for 0, 5 BB.  BA= .295.
Christian Koss SS- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .276.

Spencer Howard.  Memba him?  He churned his way back to the Giants organization and pitched a scoreless inning.

AA:  Hartford Yard Goats stomped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 10-5:

Carter Howell LF- 2 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, SB(13).  BA= .280.
Victor Bericoto 1B- 2 for 5, HR(8).  BA= .259.
Matt Higgins DH- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .346.

A+:  Vancouver Canadians edged out the Eugene Emeralds 3-2:

Charlie Szykowny 1B- 1 for 3, HR(3), BB.  BA= .309.
Sabin Ceballos 3B- 1 for 2, 2 BB.  BA= .346.
Trent Harris RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.64.

A:  Inland Empire 66'ers defeated the San Jose Giants 5-3:

Bo Davidson DH- 0 for 0, 4 BB, SB(6).  BA= .298.
Jack Payton C- 1 for 3, 3B, BB.  BA= .238.
Elijah Pleasants RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.75.

DSL:  Giants Orange crushed Rangers Blue 16-4:

Yosneiker Rivas 2B- 3 for 6, SB(3).  BA= .260.
Santiago Camacho C- 2 for 4, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .365.
Keiberg Camacaro SS- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .230.
Erick Arosemena RF- 3 for 3, HR(1).  BA= .242.
Diego Villegas 1B- 2 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .250.
Randry De Leon RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 3.05.

DSL:  Giants Black pounded LAD Bautista 11-4:

Jhonny Level DH- 2 for 5, 2 2B, BB, SB(17).  BA= .276.
Oliver Tejada CF- 4 for 5, 2B, HR(4), BB.  BA= .310.
Alexander Fuentes RHP- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.14.

Game Wrap 8/9/2024: Giants 3 Tigers 2

Tyler Fitzgerald broke up a no-hitter in the 7'th inning and 3 sacrifice flies were enough to support a Quality Start by Robbie Ray.  Key Lines:

Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 1 for 4.  BA= .312.  Fitz broke up the combined no-hitter against Kenta Maeda RHP to lead off the 7'th inning on a ground ball up the middle.  He took 3B on Ramos single through the right side.  Michael Conforto brought him home on an oppo-field sac fly.

Mark Canha DH- 1 for 3, SF.  BA= .243.  Canha was the offensive hero as he led off the 8'th inning with a line-drive single over 2B, took 3B on Brett Wisely's single through the right side and scored on Patrick Bailey's sac fly to tie the game.  Then he delivered the Giants third sac fly in the 9'th for the walk-off game winner.  I associate Canha with the Oakland A's where he was a major Giants killer but he apparently grewu up a Giants fan and is living his dream.

Robbie Ray LHP- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.98.  No-hitters and double digit K's are not sustainable but QS are, and we should expect one almost every start with the current rotation.  The Giants should win the majority of those games.  One reason I think this much-maligned stat is underrated.

Landon Roupp RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 5.40.  Roupp was called up to replace.....what?  Camilo Doval?!  Roupp's two shutdown innings were key to the Giants comeback win.

Tyler Rogers RHP pitched a scoreless top of the 9'th.

With the Win, the Giants gained a game in the Wild Card race and now trail by just 2 games.

Logan Webb RHP tries to extend the Giants winning ways today facing TBD.

Churn Watch:

In a stunning turn of events, Camilo Doval RHP was optioned to AAA Sacramento to work on his command and times to the plate.  Landon Roupp was recalled.  Curt Casali C was reinstated from the paternity list and Jakson Reetz C was optioned back to AAA Sacramento.  It should probably be mentioned that Casali was charge with 3 errors in the game.

Down on the Farm: 8/8/2014

AAA:  Abuquerque Isotopes outlasted the Sacramento River Cats 5-2(10 innings):

David Villar 3B- 2 for 4.  BA= .266.
Tristan Beck RHP- 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.00.
Trevor McDonald RHP- 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K, GO/AO= 4/1.  ERA= 2.40.
Kolton Ingram LHP- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.46.

Tristan Beck begins his rehab assignment from a subclavian aneurysm.  Yikes!  Will Trevor McDonald pitch at the MLB level this season?

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels vs Hartford Yard Goats postponed due to rain.

A+:  Vancouver Canadians crushed the Eugene Emeralds 15-4:

Scott Bandura RF- 2 for 3, BB, HBP.  BA= .226.
Quinn McDaniel 2B- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .236.
Bryce Eldridge 1B- 2 for 4, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .305.
Sabin Ceballos 3B- 2 for 4, SF.  BA= .333.

Bryce Eldridge is stating his case for #1 Giants prospect.  Batting .385 in 7 games so far in August.

A:  Inland Empire 66'ers defeated the San Jose Giants 8-3:

Lisbel Diaz LF- 2 for 5, 3B, HR(3).  BA= .209.
Shane Rademacher RHP- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.42.

First round draft pick James Tibbs III sees his first pro game action and goes 1 for 4.

DSL:  Giants Orange topped Rangers Blue 7-6:

Franco Willias 3B- 2 for 5, BB.  BA= .283.
Albert Jimenez DH- 2 for 4, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .278.
Jorge Ramirez C- 2 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .291.

DSL: Giants Black outscored Cubs Red 4-3:

Jhonny Level SS- 1 for 4, HR(8), BB.  BA= .272.
Jan Caraballo RHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.38.

Jhonny Level is probably a top 5 Giants prospect at this point, definitely top 10.  After batting .191 in June he hit .323 in July and is on tear in 5 games in August batting .389 with 4 HR's.

Game Wrap 8/8/2024: Giants 9 Nationals 5(10 innings)

The Giants overcame a 2-hour rain delay in the 8'th inning and a Blown Save by Camilo Doval to win in a daytime final game of a road trip in extra innings.  Key Lines:

Tyler Fitzgerald SS- 2 for 5, 2B, BB, 3 SB(9).  Fitz is looking like a 20-20 threat.... in half a season!

Michael Conforto LF- 2 for 4, 2 BB.  BA= .239.  Conforto has a 6-game hit streak in which he is 11 for 22.

Mark Canha 1B- 4 for 6, 2B.  BA= .242.  Bringing in Canha did not require FZ to trade away Jorge Soler.

Kyle Harrison LHP- 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.08.  I was working during the game but I've seen comments saying Harrison's velocity was still down.

Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 4.70.  The Giants staked Doval to a 3-run lead.   He walked two batters and almost pitched his way out of this but gave up a 3-run HR to blow the Save and sent it to extra innings.  His teammates picked him up.

The Giants close to 3 games behind in the Wild Card race.

The Giants have a late but happy flight home then open a weekend series agains the Tigers Friday with Robbie Ray LHP facing TBD.

Down on the Farm: 8/7/2024

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats cooled the Albuquerque Isotopes 8-4:

Wade Meckler CF- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .346.
Grant McCray RF- 3 for 5, 2B, 3B, SB(12).  BA= .279.
Trenton Brooks DH- 2 for 2, 2 SF, BB.  BA= .310.
Brett Auerbach C- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .298.
Donovan Walton 2B- 4 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .299.
Mason Black RHP- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K.  ERA= 4.70.
Clay Helvey RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.67.

Wade Meckler back to hitting for high average.  I still question if there's enough power to sustain the bat at the MLB level.  Grant McCray has a 13 game hitting streak going back to July 23.  He is 19 for 57(.333) in that span.  Donovan Walton has two 4-hit games in a row.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Hartford Yard Goats 5-2:

Jairo Pomares RF- 2 for 5.  BA= .259.
Andy Thomas C- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .234.
Matt Higgins 1B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .318.
Diego Velasquez SS- 3 for 4.  BA= .250.
Nick Sinacola RHP- 4.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K.  BA= 2.85.
Travis Kiest RHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(4).  ERA= 3.28.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds topped the Vancouver Canadians 9-3:

Bryce Eldridge 1B- 1 for 3, 3 BB.  BA= .297.
Rodolfo Nolasco RF- 4 for 5, HR(10), BB.  BA= .255.
Charlie Szykowny 3B- 2 for 4, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .313.
Cole Foster SS- 2 for 5.  BA= .118.
Alexander Suarez LF- 3 for 5, 2B, 2 SB(15).  BA= .282.
Tommy Kane LHP- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.09.
Hunter Dula RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.05.

A: San Jose Giants edged out the Inland Empire 66'ers 2-1:

Walker Martin SS- 1 for 4, BB.  BA= .143.
Guillermo Williamson 1B- 3 for 3, 2B.  BA= .221.
Ryan Reckley 2B- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .111.
Cale Lansville LHP- 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 5.76.
Ian Villers RHP- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 5.32.
Timmy Manning LHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.38.
