Scouting the 2017 Draft: Wil Crowe

Wil Crowe, RHP, College(South Carolina).  6'2", 245 lbs.

2017:  3-0, 2.25, 24 IP, 7 BB, 31 K.

Wil Crowe was a highly ranked draft prospect out of HS in 2013 who reportedly turned down contract offers above $1 M to go to college and play for South Carolina.  He ended up being drafted in the 31'st round.  He went straight into the Gamecocks rotation and pitched like an ace until he suffered a UCL tear halfway through his sophomore season in 2015.   He missed all of 2016 and is back for his redshirt Jr campaign in which he is off to a strong start. His stock is obviously on the rise and should continue to rise the longer he remains healthy and effective this college season.

Crowe has a big body and a big fastball that ranges from 92-97 MPH with a college starter's mix of a curveball that is sometimes a plus pitch and a changeup that still needs work.  His history of TJ surgery will turn off some teams on draft day but others will consider him a bargain if it causes some teams to pass on him.

  1. Madison Bumgarner has the 4th most WAR of any player taken in the 2007 draft. And with DAvid Price having elbow issues and Heyward having bat issues, in the next year he could move up to second. Josh Donaldson, the catcher, is first.
