Game Wrap 7/1/2014: Giants 5 Cardinals 0

The Giants offense came to life and Big Time Timmy Jim followed up his no-hitter with 8 innings of shutout ball for an easy win.  Key Lines:

Hunter Pence- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .295.  Not much to say about a typical Pence night at the office.

Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 3, HR(10), BB.  BA= .271.  This was Pablo's 100'th career HR.  It came after a team sponsored Facebook chat in which a woman asked Pablo to hit a HR for her son's birthday and Pablo promised to try.  It also came after Pablo broke out his lucky cowboy boots that Bumgarner gave him earlier in the season and seemed to help him break out of an early season slump.  Oh yeah, and Pabs is going to get PAID after the season!

Tim Lincecum- 8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, GO/AO= 10/4.  Timmy definitely has the swagger back.  One aspect to the last two starts that may be overlooked is the groundball outs he is getting.  His GO/AO was 12/6 in his last start which makes his ratio over his last 2 starts 22/10.  For his career, Timmy's ratio is 1.26 and overall this year is 1.35.  I'm wondering if some of the lessons he's learned from Tim Hudson are starting to pay off with a higher GB% helping the pitch-to-contact strategy work?  We'll see if it is a trend that continues.

The Win, coupled with the Dodgers loss to the Cleveland Indians enabled the Giants to regain a 0.5 game lead over the Bad Guys in the NL West.

Ryan Vogelsong faces Adam Wainwright, who will be seeking revenge for the smackdown the Giants laid on him earlier in the season, in game 2.

  1. To be honest .271 10hr .323 OBP is nothing impressive with just 79 games left. Certainly not worth anything close to $100m, which is what he is looking for.

    1. To be honest, I think most GM's are smart enough to figure out that his season stats are depressed by a terrible month of April. Since then, his Pablo's slash line is .315/.402/.492. He keeps that up for the next 3 months and yeah, he's going to get paid!

    2. He is always going to have that bad month which affects his stats. and yeah lets see if he can keep that up. he hasn't done much in the past months.

I'll admit it, im not a fan of Sandoval, I think he is one of the most overrated ball players.

    5. Pablo is close to ending his downward cycle if he keeps it up this year: OPS since 2011: 909, 789, 758 and currently 755.

He can definitely get paid 100MM by going crazy in the post-season this year. Whether the Giants need another 5 years of inconsistent play is something they'll have to answer, and maybe they won't even get the chance. Tough, tough call. Fan favorite, great to watch when he is on, huge rally killer and defensive liability when he's off. There might not be a more ying/yang player in the majors than Pablito.

    6. If I was sure Pablo was serious about maintaining the wt and conditioning he has this year, I would definitely favor a long term contract. The big question is, how much do you trust him to maintain religion he found in his walk year? Personally I would not go beyond 3 years and I don't think that will get it done.

  2. We may have lost a closer, but I hope we're looking a new starter being born.

I must say we fans have been presumptuous w.r.t. Hembree for about 2 years. He might still have something to work on. We sure could use some late inning arms...and a leadoff centerfielder...and a 2B.
