The Giants got blown out early in this one with a combination of bad pitching and fielding miscues. Key Lines:
Andres Torres- 1 for 4, 3B. BA= .256. Torres led off the game with a ringing triple up the gap in right-center. He scored on a bloop single by Scutaro. That would be the last run the Giants scored in this one.
Marco Scutaro- 2 for 4. BA= .316. The RBI single was a dying quail but it got the job done. That was before the Padres buried the Giants with an HR explosion.
Barry Zito- 2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 0 K's. 3 of the 4 hits were longballs. Maybe Zito looked around, realized it was a hot day, he had an ump with a small K zone and decided he's just as soon hit the showers early. Just kidding! I know Zeets is a competitor, but man, it gets frustrating to watch him sometimes. First pitch of the game was a FB at 82 MPH on the TV gun. Can it get any slower? I mean, that's not even a changeup for a lot of pltchers!
Jake Dunning- 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.31. Dunning got a DP grounder but the Giants failed to convert, then Lopez came in and poured gas on the fire. Not that he pitched well, but Dunning should have been out of the inning with just Zito's runner scoring.
With the Loss, the Giants remained 6.5 games behind the NL West leading D'Backs who lost to the BrewCrew 5-1. The Dodgers stayed 2.5 games back with a 3-1 loss to the Rockies who gained a game to 4.5 back. The Padres gained a game and are now 8.5 back in last place.
MLB now enters the All-Star Break. The Giants get a 4 game break and resume play on Friday, July 19 against the first place D'Backs.

Game Wrap 7/13/2013: Giants 9 Padres 0
The Giants unleashed a sustained offensive attack for the second game in a row while Tim Lincecum pitched the first no-hitter of his career. Key Lines:
Buster Posey- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .325. Buster is hitting .385 over his last 10 games. He hit .374/.426/.636 for the month of June.
Pablo Sandoval- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .269. Sandoval has been working his way out of his slump for about a week now. Tonight he looked totally locked in. He was not swinging wildly. He was not off balance. He was swinging at good pitches and driving the ball.
Hunter Pence- 2 for 4, 3B, HR(14). BA= .265. Pence has also been trying to break out of a slump. Tonight he put a major hurt on the Padres. The triple came with the bases loaded. He drove in 5 runs on the night.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 4, HR(10). BA= .261. Belt is looking a lot more confident up there. On his hit last night and both hits tonight, he is looking much more relaxed in his swing with a much stronger follow-through. Not chopping at the ball nearly as much.
Tim Lincecum- 9 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 13 K's. ERA= 4.26. Timmy looked really strong today. His velocity on the FB was only 90-91 most of the game but he had all his pitches working and was able to mix them effectively. FB, Cutter, Curve, Split-Change, maybe a slider here and there. Talk about waking up the echoes! This was true Vintage Timmy, except for the velocity of course. He was strong enough to throw 148 pitches and complete the game. I really thought he was about done after 102 pitches at the end of the 6'th, but he seemed to catch a second wind for the 7'th and 8'th innings. The 9'th started a bit weak with the FB only getting to 88-89 and a lot of elevation on the pitches but he got a third wind and made some terrific pitches bringing it home. I figured he had a great chance at the no-no after Pence made a great catch on a line drive by Amarista in the 8'th for the 3'rd out. Man, did The Rev ever look pleased with himself after making that catch! I think he enjoyed that one way more than the triple or HR.
This was Timmy's 5'th QS in his last 8 starts. Through all of his struggles, Timmy has maintained strong peripheral stats. He now has 124 K's against 48 BB's in 116.1 IP on the season. Over his last 10 starts, he has 68 K's against 23 BB's in 62.2 IP which is better than his season ratios. He has been particularly strong in his last 3 starts with 31 K's against just 7 BB's in 21.1 IP. We could be in for a strong second half from Big Time Timmy Jim! Just hope he still has the rubber arm that allowed him to throw 180 pitches a game in college.
With the Win, the Giants remained in 4'th place, 6.5 games behind the NL West leading D'Backs who topped the BrewCrew 5-4. The 2'nd place Dodgers edged the 3'rd place Rockies 1-0 behind Zack Greinke. Before I get started, I want to apologize for a comment in made after the previous post to ogc. I've removed my comment and his response. Shouldn't have happened and it's my fault. ogc is a valuable contributor to this site and I appreciate his comments.
I attended this game.
The Giants broke open a close game with 3 runs in the 6'th inning and 5 more in the 7'th for a runaway win. Key lines:
Gregor Blanco- 1 for 4, 2 BB, SB(10). BA= .279. Blanco was again getting on base, setting the table. This time his teammates drove him in as he scored 4 runs in the game.
Marco Scutaro- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .318. Scutaro has a spring in his step again and it's showing on the field. Just bangin' out the hits!
Buster Posey- 2 for 4, 2B, SF. BA= .320. 5 RBI's in this game to bring his season total to 56. Alex put up Buster's June stat line with Yasiel Puig's. Pretty close to identical except Buster has been quietly puttting up months like that for an extended period now.
Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .262. Pablo looks like he feels a lot better too. He's not small, but he does look like he is moving around a lot better than when he first came off the DL. His bat seems to be warming up.
Kensuke Tanaka- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .400. I love this guy! He's a very tough out and has brought a lightness of spirit to the team that I think has really relaxed it and reminded them to just go out and play for the joy of it. Not rah-rah, but a quiet happiness sometimes is more effective.
Brandon Crawford- 3 for 4, 2 2B, BB. BA= .276. Terrific game from Crawford who set up both big rallies with basehits out of the 8 hole.
Chad Gaudin- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.39. Gaudin really settled down after giving up a run in the bottom of the first. That run was a bit BABIPy because Belt kind of whiffed at a grounder down the 1B line by Headley that went for an RBI double. Great pitching in the 3'rd after the opposing pitcher, O'Sullivan, led off the inning with a double up the gap in left-center that I thought was a HR until it bounced off he wall. Gaudin struck out Headley and Quentin to get out of a 1'st-3'rd, 1 out jam.
Gaudin loaded the bases with no outs in the 6'th after the Giants had taken a 5-1 lead. Gaudin was visibly shocked and angry when Bochy came and got him, but it turned out to be the right move as Mijares totally put out the fire.
Jose Mijares- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.48. Tremendous pitching by Mijares who came in with the bases loaded and no outs in the 6'th. He got the LH batter, Alonso, on a pop-up then struck out RH batters Gyorko and Denorfia to get out of it with no damage. No damage! Denorfia, in particular, always seems to kill the Giants. I thought there was no way Mijares was going to get him out and he struck him out making it look easy!
With the Win, the Giants remained in 4'th place in the NL West, 6.5 games behind the division leading D'Backs who topped the BrewCrew 2-1. The Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw were blanked by the Rockies 3-0 to fall 2.5 games back in 2'nd place. The Rockies remained in 3'rd place, 4.5 games behind.
Tim Lincecum will try to keep it going against Edinson Volquez tonight.
I thought the team had a much more relaxed attitude that you could feel from the stands. I wonder if the pressure of defending the Championship, feeling like they had to stop the bleeding with each game, feeling like every game was in elimination game had this team tighter than a drum? Maybe after the last blowout by Cain, they finally realized that most people have written them off and they don't have to live up to that expectation anymore has helped them relax and just play the game for fun? We'll see if it can last. After all, this game was between the last and next-to-last place teams in the division. I just hope that whatever happens the rest of the way, we all can just enjoy the games for what they are. That includes the players. Hey! Do your best and whatever happens, happens.

The Giants broke open a close game with 3 runs in the 6'th inning and 5 more in the 7'th for a runaway win. Key lines:
Gregor Blanco- 1 for 4, 2 BB, SB(10). BA= .279. Blanco was again getting on base, setting the table. This time his teammates drove him in as he scored 4 runs in the game.
Marco Scutaro- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .318. Scutaro has a spring in his step again and it's showing on the field. Just bangin' out the hits!
Buster Posey- 2 for 4, 2B, SF. BA= .320. 5 RBI's in this game to bring his season total to 56. Alex put up Buster's June stat line with Yasiel Puig's. Pretty close to identical except Buster has been quietly puttting up months like that for an extended period now.
Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .262. Pablo looks like he feels a lot better too. He's not small, but he does look like he is moving around a lot better than when he first came off the DL. His bat seems to be warming up.
Kensuke Tanaka- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .400. I love this guy! He's a very tough out and has brought a lightness of spirit to the team that I think has really relaxed it and reminded them to just go out and play for the joy of it. Not rah-rah, but a quiet happiness sometimes is more effective.
Brandon Crawford- 3 for 4, 2 2B, BB. BA= .276. Terrific game from Crawford who set up both big rallies with basehits out of the 8 hole.

AAA Fresno Grizzlies scored the winning run in the top of the 9'th inning to squeeze past the Sacramento River Cats 3-2:

Jeff Francoeur(LF)- 0 for 5, Assist. BA= .154.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 4. BA= .375.
Ydwin Villegas(2B)- 1 for 1, 3B, 3 BB. BA= .375.
Eric Surkamp(LHP)- 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 6 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.81.

Game Wrap 7/11/2012: Giants 4 Padres 2
Madison Bumgarner fell behind by 2 runs in the first inning and it wasn't looking good. He settled down to pitch a darn good game and the Giants offense mounted a persistent attack that netted a much needed win to start the mini road trip to San Diego. Key Lines:
Gregor Blanco- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .280. Blanco's slump was relatively short lived. His BA is back on the rise.
Buster Posey- 2 for 5. BA= .317. Another day at the office.
Pablo Sandoval- 1 for 4, HR(9), BB. BA= .259. Pablo seems to be slowly, ahem, rounding into form.
Kensuke Tanaka- 2 for 4, SB(1). BA= .333. Tanaka was a sparkplug tonight accounting for 2 of the Giants 4 runs. He just comes across on TV as a real gentleman and love that smile on his face. I'll say it again. If he sticks, he's going to be very popular in SF!
