Torres, Crawford, Abreu- 5 for 12, 2B. The 6, 7, 8 hitters got 5 of the Giants 8 hits.
Tim Lincecum- 4.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.70. Timmy has just 1 QS out of his last 5 starts and 2 out of his last 8. At this point, I don't know what kind of contract Timmy could get on the open market, but I'm not at all sure he is worth a Qualifying Offer.
Gerrit Cole- 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.84. I had a work commitment, so didn't see the game. The line does not look particularly dominating from a statistical standpoint, but the 0 BB's are impressive, or else unimpressive for the Giants hitters.
The Loss drops the Giants into 3'rd place, 2.5 games behind the D'Backs who are trailing the Dodgers 5-3 in the 8'th inning of their game. No Dodger lead seems to be safe these days, though. The Rockies beat the Nationals 8-3 to gain 0.5 games pending the outcome of the D'Backs game. The Padres topped the Braves 3-2 and sit 5.5 games back in 4'th place while the Dodgers are 8.5 games back in last place.
Barry Zito, who has been terrible in road games takes on Francisco Liriano tomorrow evening.

Chad Gaudin turned in his second clutch start in a row and the Giants offense was clicking. Juan Perez made his MLB debut memorable with a sensational catch at the right-centerfield wall. Key Lines:

Brandon Belt- 1 for 4, HR(7), BB. BA= .251. It did not look like Belt got all of his HR ball, but it carried out into the pool area in right-centerfield. He lined out earlier in the game. The D'Backs put on a pretty radical shift on him. He is capable of punching the ball down the LF line. That would be fun to watch!

With the Win, the Giants gained a game on the NL West leading D'Backs and now trail by 1.5 games. The Rockies remained tied for 2'nd place with an 8-7 win over the Padres who remained in 4'th place 6 games back. The Dodgers lost to the Braves 8-1 to remain in last place, 7.5 games behind the D'Backs.
This was a very nice series win by the Giants in the home park of the division leaders, especially considering the heartbreak of the first game loss. This team has become known for shaking off tough losses and discouraging runs and they did it again in this series.

Scouting the Draft: Day 3 Review
Unlike last year when the Giants loaded up on a lot of college guys, they drafted a surprising number of HS and JC players in the later rounds of this draft. Whether that means they are feeling more aggressive for upside or merely punting the picks remains to be seen. Let's break it down:
11. Johneshwy Fargas, OF, Puerto Rico HS. No stats on Fargas but just the name conjures up visions of future greatness. He's a skinny slap and dash guy with plus-plus speed. Outside chance he may fill out his frame and develop some power down the road. Aaron Fitt of BA seems to really like him a lot. Several Puerto Rico players taken in round 11 possibly indicating that organizations think they will sign for the approximately $100 K bonus that is allowed for each pick after round 10.
12. Ty Ross, C, LSU. Defensive catcher in the mold of Jackson Williams. Hit just .211 this season for LSU. Has some power if he makes contact.
13. Pat Young, RHP, Villanova. 2-8, 4.81, 82.1 IP, 34 BB, 76 K. Big pitcher listed at 6'5", 100 lbs. but the MLB scouting report says he is 6'7", 208 lbs. Low 90's FB with a slider. Has a changeup but rarely shows it. High effort delivery. Probably profiles as a reliever.
14. Nick Jones, LHP, JC(AL). 6'6", 220 lbs. No info. Just a big 'ol Lefty. Those are always intriguing.

Game Wrap 6/8/2013: Giants 10 D'Backs 5
The Giants offense took their frustrations from Friday night out on Trevor Cahill and the D'Backs to overcome a subpar pitching performance by Madison Bumgarner and the bullpen. Key lines:
Gregor Blanco- 2 for 5, 2 2B, BB. BA= .265. Some nice leadoff work from Blanco.
Buster Posey- 2 for 4, HR(8). BA= .300. A day at the office for Buster.
Pablo Sandoval- 1 for 2. BA= .289. Pablo came out of this one with a strained foot. Stay tuned.
Hunter Pence- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(10), 2 SB(12). BA= .288. Pence is well on his way to a 20/20 season.

With the Win, the Giants gained a game on the NL West leading D'Backs to get back to 2.5 games behind. The Rockies lost to the Padres 4-2 to slip into a tie for 2'nd place with the Giants. The Padres gained a game to a 6 game deficit in 4'th place. The Dodgers lost to ATL 2-1 to remain 7.5 games behind the leaders.

AA Game 1 Richmond Flying Squirrels outhomered the Trenton Thunder 3-2:
Panik(2), Duvall(6) and Herrera(8) all hit solo HR's to account for the Flying Squirrels scoring. Trenton's 2 runs also came on solo HR's.
