The Giants had to remove 10 players from the 40-man roster to make room for the mandatory activation of players coming off the 60-day IL. The names were not at all surprising but some of the destinations were. Let's break it down:
Jose Butto RHP was claimed off waivers by the Rangers.
Duncan Davitt RHP was claimed off waivers by the Reds.
Brett Harris IF and Shay Whitcomb were claimed off waivers by the Phillies.
Zach Morgan C was claimed off waivers by the Orioles.
Tristan Beck RHP was placed on unconditional release waivers.
Joel Kuhnel RHP and Seth Lonsway LHP were outrighted to AAA Sacramento.
Reiver Sanmartin LHP was DFA'd.
The Giants declined an option on Rowan Wick RHP. He remains on the 40-man roster, at least for now, as an arbitration eligible player.
