Robbie Ray outpitched Chris Sale allowing just an unearned run in 8 IP and the lineup broke through with a three runs in the 6'th and 7'th innings and Caleb Kilian held on for the Save. Key Lines:
Matt Chapman 3B- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .241. Frustrating trend of leadoff batters getting on base but not figuring into scoring continues.
Luis Arraez 2B- 2 for 3, SF, R, RBI. BA= .324. Arraez started the 6'th inning rally with a leadoff single.
Heliot Ramos DH- 1 for 3, BB, R. BA= .268. Welcome back Heliot! Bryce Eldridge sat against the ace lefty.
Willy Adames SS- 1 for 4. BA= .231. Adames came out of the game with back spasms. Casey Schmitt finished the game at SS.
Drew Gilbert PH/CF- 1 for 1, R. BA= .233. Jonah Cox started in CF against the LHP. Gilbert singled to lead off the 7'th as a PH. He went to 3'rd on Chapman's double and scored on the Arraez Sac Fly.
There have been other years when the Giants should have had a “fire sale “and this is another, even more obvious, year. This team does not have a realistic chance of getting into the playoffs or competing with the really good teams - although they did pretty good against Atlanta. I think they should make the moves that can help into the future instead of just plodding along as a mediocre (at best) team. They held on to faint hope under Farhan and they missed opportunities to acquire talent and settled for mediocrity. It seems they may have several players with some value and now is the time to pull the trigger .
ReplyDeleteAgree. In addition to Arraez, Robbie Ray has suddenly turned his season around and make himself an really interesting trade target for a team wanting to make a stretch run.
DeleteWorth noting Adames took himself out of the game after another gigantic swing (and whiff). In four at-bats, he had three strikeouts. Enough! Twelve strikeouts in this game for the Giants ... starting to be a problem for this team again.
ReplyDeleteGiants need to sell Ray and Arraez. I’m a huge fan of Arraez but there’s way more reasons to reads him than there is to keep him. Farhan never sold during his tenure, he always stood pat basically. I was always disappointed when Giants would be hovering around .500 and Farhan would just choose to stand pat instead of buying or selling. I always wanted him
ReplyDeleteTo sell. Especially that year when Alex Cobb was good.
