  1. Slater was called up and Osich on DL. My guess is that Slater goes back down Tues with Smith coming off DL but you could see one of the other reserves getting cut. Having said that, I just don't see it. Both of Blanco and Gorkys are hitting ok. The real issue is AJ shouldn't be starting and so you've got 3 guys, all who can play CF, but none who should start. Maybe the cut one of them, and if so, I think it is Blanco but I think that is dicey since I don't think they really want Cutch in CF. Duggar needs to push the issue.

  2. CF may be the most important part of the issue but the entire outfield is the problem!
It's not just Pence and Jackson who are "deficient" -- put McCutchen in there, too.
None on them is a plus fielder (dWAR) -- not even +0.1 -- it's difficult to say who is best and who is worst plus none of them is hitting a lick.
If a team would take any of them for nothing and pick up any of their salary even the MLB minimum amount, the Giants would be ahead with Williamson, Slater, Duggar, Blanco, and Hernandez.
Add McCutchen and Jackson to the bad trade/signings of Melancon, McGehee, Dyson, Holland, Moore, Span, Leake, Beltran, Nunez and some other lesser lights. There have been some pluses but lately not so much and it's not really certain that Longoria is very positive, if he is at all.
The last 3 years have been quite a comedown from the 3-in-5 world series winners -- for sure that spoiled us and we have expected better.
The jury is out on 2018, but the OF problem should be addressed and pronto!

  3. Hunter Pence starting his rehab assignment is the least inspiring bit of news here...
