Giants pitchers were able to hold the Mets to 2 runs despite allowing 9 hits and issuing 9 walks, but the Giants offense sputtered in Hunter Pence's debut 2 runs was ultimately too many. Key Lines:
Buster Posey- 1 for 3, HR(14), BB. BA= .318.
Hunter Pence- 0 for 4. BA= .269. Pence did reach base on a WP.
Matt Cain- 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.82. Cain allowed a leadoff HR to Tejada and 1 more run in the 2'nd inning but held the Mets at bay for 3 more innings before giving way to the bullpen.
Bullpen- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 6 BB, 1 K. Kruk was obsessed over the weirdness of the game coinciding with a full moon and Jerry Garcia night, but this is a strange line.
The Dangerous D'Backs blanked the Dodgers 4-0 to keep the Hated Ones a game behind the NL West leading Giants, but the D'Backs are now laying seige to the gates just 2.5 games behind the leaders.
Barry Zito goes against Chris Young in an afternoon game tomorrow.

nate 2 for 4 with game winning dinger
ReplyDeletehector back...whitey down
loux back....jc down...giants going with more pitching
After watching Posey's first two ABs, was not at all surprised he went yard in his third. You could see he was dialed in.
ReplyDeleteHell of a catch from Blanco. Might have been better than THE catch.
Really like the look of Pence in a Giants uniform. Much better vibe than I ever got from Beltran. (Totally acknowledging that Beltran is a superior player)
Agree that Giants would have done well to pick up another arm. Still pretty shocked at what Street signed for to stay in SD. Bargain.
Early on, when the Dodgers were hot, I was saying no one in the West is going to win 100 games. Now I'm starting to wonder if anyone is going to win 90.
