Hot Stove Update: Giants Sign Power Hitting OF

The Giants finally found their RH power hitting left fielder in Darin Ruf.  Darin Ruf?  You may recall Darin Ruf as a big dude with some pop who played for the Phillies a few years ago.  What-the-heck happened to him?  Well, he's spent the last 3 seasons in Korea where he hit .313 with 86 HR.  Per Jayson Stark of The Athletic, the Giants signed him to a minor league deal, presumably with a spring training invitation.  I can see it clearly now.  Ruf is going to hit about 10 HR's in spring training and totally make the team as at least a RH platoon option for 1B and LF.  Then he'll hit about .200 in the regular season until he is DFA'd.

    2. I was disappointed Madbum didn't re-sign, but not sure if he wanted to come back with his friend Bochy retiring and the team rebuilding. Not sure what doc thinks about this. Pillar was let go so Zaidi could acquire a power hitting corner outfielder or go with younger player like Jaylin Davis and yes his contract would have been expensive. We will see if this was the right decision. I think Zaidi is learning how the Giants have difficulty signing top hitters all these years. I'm ok with paying Cozarts contract to get a top prospect Will Wilson. They're spending money for the future. Most of the comments I've read from writers were positive for the Giants. I just want to see Zaidi point the Giants in the right direction over time. I liked some of the things Bobby Evans did, but the team had a losing record the 3 seasons he was GM, and ownership felt a change in management was needed.

    3. You can't get premium FA hitters to come, the only hitters you trade for are twilight of career types like Cutch or Longoria, so you've got to establish a well-stocked farm with strong development staff to grow your own hitters. That seems to be what FZ is doing so let's get behind him
