Carbonell showing significant improvement as a player, but is it too little, too late? Halstead entered the game in the 8'th with a 1 run lead which nets him the 2-inning Save even though the final margin was 5 runs.

Game Wrap 4/7/2017: Reds 4 Giants 0
If you knew that Johnny Cueto struck out 10 batters and walked just 1 in 7 IP with Scott Feldman the opposing starter, you would say he almost certainly won the game, right? That would be in any other season. In this season, Feldman pitches a CG 4-hit shutout while Cueto give up 2 dingers and 2 unearned runs and the Giants lose 4-0. The loss completes a humiliating series sweep at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds and leaves the Giants in complete disarray as a team. Key Lines:
Christian Arroyo SS- 1 for 3, 2B. BA= .255. Arroyo's bat has been a source of extra-base power in a power-starved lineup, but his throwing error allowed leadoff hitter Billy Hamilton to reach base which led to 2 unearned runs and the Giants starting yet another game in a hole.
Johnny Cueto RHP- 7 iP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K's. ERA= 4.50. The Giants are down to 1 pitcher they can count on to pitch a great game, and even that was not enough today. Now they have to wait 4 games for his turn to come around again.

The Giants now proceed to New York to take on a team that seems to be just as out of sync, the Mets with Matt Moore trying to rebound from his disastrous start against the Dodgers facing the Mets ace, Jake DeGrom.

In this series, the Giants were simply not competitive in any facet of the game. That's what makes their situation so dire. It isn't just this series, either. Yes, they somehow managed to take 2 of 3 from the Dodgers in LA, but there have been way too many games this season where they just did not compete. Yes, they need a better LF situation and a better CF situation and they got a terrible break with Bumgarner's misadventure, but it's not at all clear that they would be a contending team with everybody healthy. Right now, this is not a team that can be fixed with 1 or even 2 acquisitions. The Giants need to get a lot more competitive with the players they have before giving any consideration to bolstering the roster with mid-season trades.

Game Wrap 5/6/2017: Reds 14 Giants 2
The Reds routed the Giants for the second consecutive game. Key Lines:
Christian Arroyo 3B- 1 for 2, BB. BA= .250. Arroyo continues to be a bright spot. Young enough to be part of a future core, but advanced enough to be an addition to the current one?
Eduardo Nunez SS- 2 for 3, 2B, SF. BA= .270. I am not convinced that Nunez has no trade value. He won't bring back a top prospect, but he would bring back more than a scrub.
Ty Blach LHP- 3 IP, 11 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 0 K. ERA= 5.66. After last night's 12 walk game, was Blach so intent on avoiding them that he made himself too hittable?
Bryan Morris RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 15.00. Morris may have earned at least another appearance as he made quick work of the Reds in his 1 inning of work after a disastrous first appearance.
Josh Osich LHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00. Another bright spot? Problem is the other bullpen lefty, Okert, who has been sensational had a rough outing just prior to Osich's appearance.

Brent Rooker, 1B/OF, College(Mississippi St.). B-R, T-R. 6'4", 220 lbs
2017: .413/.511/.905, 25 2B, 3 3B, 19 HR, 17 SB, 31 BB, 37 K, 179 AB.
2016: .324/.376/.578, 15 2B, 2 3B, 11 HR, 2 SB, 16 BB, 48 K, 204 AB.
2015(New England Collegiate): .360/.413/.609, 10 2B, 10 HR, 12 SB, 15 BB, 33 K, 164 AB.
2016(Cape Cod League): .305/.338/.426, 8 2B, 3 HR, 4 SB, 5 BB, 37 K, 141 AB.
Rooker is one of the more intriguing and polarizing draft prospects for 2017. He's a redshirt junior at Mississippi St who has destroyed college pitching in a very down year for college hitters. He's playing 1B this season but has enough speed and arm to play OF, most likely LF as a pro. He could be another Bryce Brentz, but Brentz played against much weaker competition than Rooker, whose school plays in the SEC, maybe college baseball's strongest conference. He also has wood bat pedigree. Scouts do wonder if he will make enough contact at the highest levels of pro ball, but he checks all of the statistical boxes. He is currently projected to be a late first through 2'nd round pick. Much as I believe the Giants biggest organizational need is pitching, the power outage at the MLB level of the organization is so bad I would not be unhappy to see them take a shot with Rooker at #19. I doubt this will happen as the Giants have ALWAYS drafted either pitching or up-the-middle talent in round 1.
