AAA El Paso Chihuahuas outscored the Sacramento River Cats 7-6:
Gorkys Hernandez CF- 2 for 4. BA= .276.
Mitch Delfino 3B- 2 for 4. BA= .291.
Grant Green 1B- 4 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .298.
Joan Gregorio RHP- 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.71.
Gorkys is hitting .407 over his last 10 games. Someone asked about a timetable for Gregorio. I would think the Giants want him to spend the full rest of the season in Sacramento with a September callup.

AA Game suspended after the top of the 3'rd inning with Harrisburg Senators leading the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-1:
NTSH. Kyle Crick allowed 4 runs in 3 IP.

High A San Jose Giants defeated the Visalia Rawhide 8-4:
Ronnie Jebavy CF- 1 for 4, HR(4). BA= .240.
Steven Duggar RF- 3 for 4, HR(8). BA= .289.
Ty Ross C- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .247.
Robbie Garvey LF- 2 for 4. BA= .286.
Jason Forjet RHP- 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 11 K's. ERA= 4.30.
Jebavy is hitting .300 over his last 10 games. All 4 of his HR's have come in 13 games starting May 20.
*********************************************************************************
Low A Augusta Greenjackets edged out the West Virginia Power 3-2:
Lucius Fox SS- 1 for 4, 3B. BA= .208.
Miguel Gomez 3B- 2 for 4. BA= .333.
Matt Winn C- 1 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .236.
Jean Angomas LF-RF- 1 for 2, BB, SB(7). BA= .204.
Michael Santos RHP- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.91.
Tyler Cyr RHP- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.48.
Conner Kaden RHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.79.
Per Covechatter's twitter feed, Santos left the game after getting hit by a comebacker off the bat of the first batter of the 3'rd inning. He appeared to escape serious injury. Kaden's ERA is inflated by a single disaster appearance on May 15.

Game Wrap 6/3/2016: Giants 5 Cardinals 1
Johnny Cueto battled through a balky back to hold off the Cardinals long enough for the offense to put the game away late. Key Lines;
Denard Span- 1 for 5. BA= .262. Span had a quiet night until the top of the 9'th inning when he singled through a drawn-in IF to drive in the first two of 3 insurance runs the Giants scored in the inning.
Joe Panik- 2 for 5. BA= .246. Panik started a string of 4 singles in the 4'th inning to help the Giants get a 2-1 lead they never gave up.
Jarrett Parker- 0 for 2, 2 BB. BA= .212. No firewords from Parker, but he had a great AB against Trevor Rosenthal in the 9'th to draw a walk and keep the line moving toward a 3-run inning. He also made a nice catch against the RF wall to rob someone of extra bases earlier in the game.
Brandon Crawford- 2 for 3, HBP. BA= .267. Kuip and Jon Miller were talking about a recent article in which Adam Wainwright said the Giants are an underrated team and pointed to Brandon Crawford as being the type of player that makes them much better than they get credit for because he does so many things well.
Johnny Cueto- 6 IP, 4 H 1 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 11/2. ERA= 2.16. Cueto battled a stiff back all night, which may have contributed to the 5 BB's. Maybe not being at full strength contributed to sink on the ball producing the 11/2 GO/AO? Cueto will now get a full week between starts due to the Giants 2 off days next week. Bochy will not skip Suarez in the rotation.
Cory Gearrin- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.66. Gearrin got the last 2 outs of the 7'th inning and the first out of the 8'th. Where would the Giants be without Gearrin? Very savvy pickup by the front office last year and even savvier to hang onto him for this year.
*********************************************************************************
The Win enabled the Giants to maintain their 5.5 game lead in the NL West over the Dodgers who beat the Braves 4-2. The Rockies trail the last place Padres 4-0 in the 9'th inning. A loss would push them to 10 games behind the Giants and effectively out of the division race, at least for the time being.
*********************************************************************************
Jeff Samardzija takes the mound for game 2 tomorrow facing Michael Wacha.
*********************************************************************************
The Giants announced that Hunter Pence had suffered a complete tear of one head of the hamstring tendon behind his knee. He will undergo surgery to remove the torn tendon, essentially the same surgery that Angel Pagan had in 2013. Pence is expected to miss 8-10 weeks of the season. Replacing him will be so tough in so many ways. He does so many different things to help the Giants win.

AAA El Paso Chihuahuas defeated the Sacramento River Cats 6-3:
Gorkys Hernandez CF- 2 for 3, 2B, 3B, BB, Sac, SB(11). BA= .272.
Austin Slater LF- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .400.
Matt Lujan LHP- 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.74.
Gorkys fills up the stat line! Austin Slater has a successful AAA debut.
*********************************************************************************
AA Richmond Flying Squirrels blanked the Bowie Baysox 3-0:
Christian Arroyo SS- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .286.
Tyler Horan LF- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .278.
Ali Castillo 2B- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .310.
Tyler Beede RHP- 8 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 7/7. ERA= 3.05.
Ray Black RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K'S, Save(5). ERA= 7.45.
Arroyo is hitting .341 over his last 10 games. Interesting line from Beede. He allowed just 2 baserunners in his longest start as a pro in terms of IP, but just 2 K's. He threw just 87 pitches and said he could have finished the game, but Black needed an inning of work. After the game he said he was trying to pitch to contact and induce weak contact. The GO/AO suggests he was using both his 2-seamer with sink and his 4 seamer. I think Beede is a fascinating case study in pitcher development with a still unknown ending. What happens when you train a pitching prospect with strikeout stuff to pitch to contact while they are still in the minor leagues? The statistical people will tell you it won't work. Is the payoff a lower probability of injury? I don't think you can tell from a sample of 1.

High A San Jose Giants beat the Visalia Rawhide 3-1:
Ronnie Jebavy CF- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .240.
Jonah Arenado 3B- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .258.
Jose Vizcaino Jr DH- 1 for 3, HR(3), BB. BA= .240.
Mark Reyes LHP- 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.83.
Reyes Maronta RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.25.
Rodolfo Martinez RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(16). ERA= 0.77.
Jebavy is hitting .293 over his last 10 games. Maronta is unscored upon in his last 14 appearances since May 2. Martinez has not allowed a run in his last 8 appearances and has not allowed a walk in that span.
*********************************************************************************
Low A West Virginia Power downed the Augusta Greenjackets 4-1:
Kelvin Beltre 3B- 1 for 3, BB, SB(6). BA= .229.
Michael Connolly RHP- 8 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 11/3. ERA= 3.21
Ryan Koziol RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.61.
That's a dominant start by Connolly based on peripheral stats.

Got this from Covechatter's twitter feed: This is devastating! Remember RHP Donny Everett from last year's draft class? BA reports he drowned in a lake in Tennessee yesterday. Everett was the spit tin' image of Matt Cain. He chose to go to Vanderbilt instead of signing with the Brewers who drafted him in the 22'nd round. He got a late start on the season due to injuries but pitched well in May with an ERA of 1.50 and 13 K's in 12 IP. Vanderbilt is just starting their College World Series playoff run.

Game Wrap 6/2/2016: Giants 6 Braves 0
The Giants offense came to life for 6 runs on 3 2-run dingers in the 5'th inning to support another dominant start by Madison Bumgarner. Oh, and Bummy hit one of the HR's himself! Key Lines:
Denard Span- 0 for 3, 2 BB, SB(7). BA= .263. When you are the leadoff hitter in a lineup, it doesn't really matter how you get on base. Span's OBP was .400 in this game.
Joe Panik- 1 for 5, HR(6). BA= .242. Panik got the party started in the 5'th.
Buster Posey- 1 for 4, HR(8), BB. BA= .264. Posey seemed to be going back into a slump, but his bat woke up long enough to drive in Matt Duffy, who was HBP, ahead of him. I didn't hear where this pitch hit duffman. Hopefully not on the same hand the previous one.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB. BA= .306. Terrific game by Belt, but strangely enough, he did not figure in the scoring.
Madison Bumgarner- 1 for 4, HR(2). BA= .156. Here's a variation of something I saw on somebody's blog today. Now I can't find it but give credit wherever it's due. Since the start of the 2014 season, Madison Bumgarner has hit a HR ever 16.7 PA's while Mike Trout has hit one every 18.2.
Madison Bumgarner- 7.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K's. ERA= 1.91. Another double digit K day for Bumgarner who now has 28 of them which is right up there with all the Giants great except Timmy and he's closing on Timmy fast.
Chris Stratton- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00. So far, so good for Stratton in his first 2 innings of MLB experience. Next step is to get the ball in a moderate leverage situation or go multiple innings.
*********************************************************************************
With the Win, the Giants finally gained a game on the Dodgers who lost to the Cubs 7-2 falling 5.5 games behind the NL West leaders. Julio Urias' second MLB start was a big better than his first, but still not good. He'll probably be a beast someday, but not out of the gate. The Rockies also lost to fall 8.5 games off the pace.
*********************************************************************************
The Giants now move on to St Louis for the final leg of this 10 game roadie. Johnny Cueto faces Adam Wainwright in the first game tomorrow evening.

Game Wrap 6/1/2016: Braves 5 Giants 4
Ouch! That one hurt, in more ways than one! The Giants squandered a 4-1 lead and lost to one of the worst teams in baseball in extra innings, and they lost Hunter Pence, probably for at least 2 weeks, after he aggravated his hammy strain trying to beat out and IF hit. Key Lines:
Brandon Belt- 3 for 4, HR(6), BB. BA= .299. Belt stays hot. He just might be the best hitter on the team right now, especially if Pence is going to be out of commission for awhile.
Gregor Blanco- 2 for 5. BA= .280. Blanco has been playing well. He will likely start everyday with Pence out while Parker and Willamson platoon the other OF position.
Albert Suarez- 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.18. About as good as you can expect for a guy making his first MLB start after pitching out of the bullpen for awhile. He left the game with his team in a position to win.
Santiago Casilla- 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, BS(4). ERA= 2.08. Casilla pitched in some very bad luck, but he made some of that bad luck himself. The disturbing part to me, was it looked like he panicked after he hit Adonis Garcia with a pitch after shaking off Buster Posey, who wanted a pitch on the outside corner, twice. It got worse after a bloop single by Markakis with Casilla throwing up his arms at Gregor Blanco for not trying to get the runner at 3B even though it looked like he would have had no chance to get him and Blanco was probably wise to make sure the winning run did not get to 2B. Casilla then threw a WP to allow the run to score. He also was visibly angry with the home plate ump even though the ump appeared to be calling balls and strikes correctly. I don't know if this is insecurity stemming from Bochy not letting him pitch to Jake Lamb several series ago or what, but Casilla has to be able to control his emotions better than that if he's going to be the closer on a championship team.
*********************************************************************************
With the Loss, the Giants failed to take advantage of an opportunity to put more distance between them and the rest of the NL West as the Dodgers lost to the Cubs 2-1 and the Rockies lost to Cincinnati 7-2. So, the Dodgers and Rockies remain 4.5 and 7.5 games behind the Giants respectively.
*********************************************************************************
Now the Giants have to hope Madison Bumgarner is enough of a morning person to pitch them to a series tie tomorrow in a game that starts at 12:00 Noon EDT.
