ReplyDeleteKeith Law has the Giants at #13 picking high schooler JoJo Parker (SS) in his mock draft today instead of college pitcher Kyson Witherspoon (who goes to Tampa at #14) … good choice?
ReplyDelete10 out of the top 25 prospects or so are SS. Maybe go with Summerhill who is a corner outfielder and one of the best pure bats, instead.
DeleteThoughts: This draft seems pretty deep for prep and college shortstops and I would like to see the Giants really start to concentrate on drafting and developing position players. Drafting shortstops has the benefit that they can move down the defensive spectrum if they need to move off the position. Sure, we know you should not draft based on the current state of the big league team and just take the best player available but the Giants have shown they can develop pitchers drafted in the later rounds
DeleteI am not familiar with either Parker or Witherspoon and have not seen their names in other mock drafts. I am not that excited about any of the position prospect. The Giants have had a lot of success drafting HS pitchers. I kind of have my heart set on Kruz Schoolcraft LHP who looks like an absolute stud who should be a fast mover even as a HS prospect.
DeleteWith a #1 Name!
DeleteDoc, have you checked out Jack Bauer LHP from Illinois? 100+ MPH Lefties don’t grow on trees.
ReplyDeleteBauer is ranked at #37 by MLB Pipeline. Here are some of the comments in their scouting report: Teams still aren't sure what exactly to make of Bauer's massive velocity jump. He has pitched in short stints while topping out around 95 mph in the third inning. While the track record of prep pitchers with heaters this hot isn't great and sudden fastball gains are often a precursor to injury, he's one of the more intriguing arms available. I'll stick with my man, Schoolcraft.
