Down on the Farm: 6/8/2025

AAA:  Sacramento River Cats shut out the Sugarland Space Cowboys 4-0.

Grant McCray CF- 2 for 4, 2 HR(6), 2 R, 4 RBI.  BA= .256.
Osleivis Basabe DH- 2 for 3, 2 R.  BA= .246.
Hunter Bishop RF- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .232.
Mason Black RHP- 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 4.12.
Kai-Wei Teng RHP- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.74.

Grant McCray produced all 4 of the River Cats runs with some help from Osleivis Basabe who was on base for both of McCray's HR's.

AA:  Richmond Flying Squirrels outscored the Erie Seawolves 11-9.

Cal Mitchell RF- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .190.
Turner Hill CF- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .163.
Jairo Pomares LF- 3 for 4, HR(7), SF, SB(6).  BA= .219.
Adrian Sugastey C- 3 for 5, 2 2B, HR(5).  BA= .199.

The Squirrels have position players who are capable of putting up nice lines but over the long haul that league grinds a log of hitters down.

A+:  Eugene Emeralds sank the Everett Aquasox 8-0.

Scott Bandura DH- 2 for 5, SB(19).  BA= .296.
Jonah Cox LF- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .233.
Bo Davidson CF- 1 for 4, BB, SB(9).  BA= .312.
James Tibbs III- 1 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .228.
Onil Perez C- 2 for 4, HR(2).  BA= .314.
Dayson Croes 2B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .333.
Jack Payton 1B- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(2), BB.  BA= .252.
Cesar Perdomo LHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 4.88.
Tyler Vogel RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.25.

After struggling for a year and a month, Onil Perez has come on like gangbusters over the past month and is putting up numbers like he did for San Jose in 2023.

A: San Jose Giants topped the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-6.

Carlos Gutierrez RF- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .350.
Dakota Jordan CF- 2 for 5, 3B, SB(19).  BA= .297.
Maui Ahuna SS- 1 for 5, HR(2).  BA= .219.
Walker Martin 3B- 1 for 3, BB, SB(5).  BA= .213.
Drake George RHP- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.59.
Evan Gray RHP- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.71.

Carlos Gutierrez comes back from a day off and keeps on raking.  Dakota Jordan should be considered for a promotion to his age-appropriate level, A+, by no later than right after the draft.  Good to see Maui Ahuna finally playing regularly. Hopefully he starts to find some traction at the plate.

  1. On a previous post, someone hinted that they might be parting ways with Yaz. I would think that Daniel Johnson is more on the bubble than Yaz at this point, whether the replacement is Matos, McCray, or Meckler. After yesterday, Yaz probably bought himself more time and they will DFA him only as a very last resort. If the number on the W column keeps changing, the front office will probably not make a move.

    1. I don't think YtY will be DFA'd unless he expresses displeasure with his role but I don't think he's the necessarily the starting RF at this point even on the left side of the platoon. Now, a few more games like yesterday and he might regain that role but by bringing in Johnson, management is clearly looking at other options.

    2. ....and at this point if a clear upgrade was available for a reasonable trade price I'm pretty sure management would pull the trigger and the bar for upgrade is not high.

    3. I think YAZ stays until traded or DFA IFFF more hlep is brought in by the deadline..He surely stays longer than Johnson or Encarnacion......I would DFA Johnson yesterday for one of the kids..but we'll who, iff anybody get hot in Colorado,

Can easily see several of Tibbs/Bendura/Davidson (especially) movign up to Rich with the bats in SJ , lead by Guiterres leading the way, replaicng them...and then several players from AZ (jenkins?) that are just chomping at the bit ready to move up to SJ..Maybe all after the draft,,,,

And Mason Black saying don't forget about me!!!...I put him above SEYMOUR and maybe even McDonald (for now)..he's hard to hit but control is his issue, he really loses it at times...LIKE ROUPP, hopefully he finds a way t get in under control..

  2. In a very SSS, Smith is an upgrade over this years' LMWJ although an 88 OPS+ isn't what you want at 1B, but, other than scoring 2 runs and at least one nice catch, Johnson isn't YtY.
Even with his "brutal" slump, YtY still has a positive OPS+ and the 3rd highest bWAR on the Giants, plus he was THE OFFENSE yesterday.
As for Huff or Knizner, isn't the jury out on that? If the latter gets a couple hits he'll raise his OPS+ from -100!
