Gotta think we're going to see Jerar in the Giants lineup no later than Monday night when they return to SF to face the Padres. I know about the problems against LHP's but IMO the bigger need is for a lefty bat.

Is Luciano hurt? Looks like he hasn't played the last 3 games.
ReplyDeleteThe Flying Squirrels had 5 hits in the 1st inning with 2 runners thrown out at home, the first with one out and the second on an attempted double steal.
ReplyDeleteThe only out the pitcher got was Eldridge's K.
Jack Choate gave up two 2-run HRs in the top of the 1st before getting an out.
That was the game, followed by 8 scoreless innings.
Haha, don't arrive late!
You wrote "IMO the bigger need is for a lefty bat."
ReplyDeleteMcCray or Meckler? They are on the 40-man.
Johnson or Bishop? They are not.
Trade? Is there an outfield LHB available from a team that really needs pitching?
Someone mentioned Nathaniel Lowe as in interesting potential trade option for 1B. If a lefty-hitting RF is not available on the trade market I think we are getting close to time to bring up McCray and move YtY to a 4'th OF role. Giants need to evaluate McCray at the MLB level and YtY is in his last season before free agent eligibility so no reason to see what they have in McCray.
DeleteGreat bounce back start by McDonald...It's good that the youngsters in SF, SAC and even WHitman and ferw others in Richmond continue to show promise and excell..unfortunately just like in SF, the anemic offenses in SAC and RIC put so much stress on the pitchers.....ANyways, Posey is going to have to decide between now and December which young arm(s) to deal for longer term help with the bat...

Travor Larnach and Matt Wallner are 2 lefty hitting OF’s who are both young with good upside and Minnesota probably doesn’t have room for both. I doubt they would take anything less than our top pitching prospects which is the problem with most trade partners. I feel like there is a real possibility that we value our prospect arms more than other teams and their trade value is never going to be high enough for Buster to take the risk. On the other hand we have 2 veteran starters that could help another team down the stretch but would probably end our chances at the playoffs if we traded either of them. That is the sacrifice that is needed and who knows if the Twinkies even want Webb or Ray but my guess is that would be the more likely trade scenario
ReplyDeleteThe Twins did not seem to be in dire need of pitching when the Giants played them but I would have no problem trading, say, Birdsong plus McDonald for Trevor Larnach or Matt Wallner.

Do you maybe package Trevor McDonald and another pitching prospect for a trade for Ryan O'Hearn?
ReplyDeleteO'Hearn would be a 2 or 3 month rental but his numbers look great. Yes, I would give up McDonald plus a lower level pitching prospect. Not Birdsong, Harrison or Whiz though.
DeleteWonder if Hicks+lower level arm for OHearn makes sense if giants eat the money.
DeleteI don't see how any deal involving Hicks would occur this season. There's almost three years remaining on that contract. He makes too much money for a mediocre reliever but he doesn't have the stamina to be a full time starter. The Giants might have to eat as much as $30 million to get rid of Hicks and his salary if they want to do it this year.
DeleteRyan O'Hearn from Baltimore has been mentioned as a trade candidate. 1B/OF bats left, throws left, and is a free agent next year.
ReplyDeleteSee response to Rob above.
DeleteAny chance that Meckler gets the call up soon again a lefty bat, but Matos isn’t doing much as the 4th outfielder. HR today not withstanding.

Much as I like Meckler, I just think McCray has a far higher ceiling and he's been hitting well for a month in Sac. But that's just me.
DeleteMcCray ended May with .257 BA and 2 home runs. McCray has a higher ceiling but Meckler seems more ready at this moment.
DeleteI'm just not that into Meckler. I don't agree that he's any more "ready" than McCray. He's not nearly as good defensively and his ceiling is comparatively much lower. If it's time to move on from YtY, I'd bring up McCray and give him a head start on adjusting to the league.
DeleteMcCray started the month well but began to slump last week. Also, Meckler hits LHP better than McCray. I will agree to disagree.
DeleteMeckler has played a total of 9 games all season. In 7 games over 2 levels after an extended IL stint his slash line is .261/.414/.261. His career MLB line is .232/.328/.250. He's undersized. Is not particularly fast, much worse defender than McCray. Just not sure what you or anyone sees in him that would make you elevate him over a 5-tool guy with an obviously far higher ceiling.
DeleteBTW, I honestly doubt either one is getting called up anytime soon so we're probably debating a moot issue.
DeleteIn previous years, this would not be a moot point because of the many soft tissue injuries and the weaponization of the 26 man roster. I agree that this issue would only come up if there were an injury situation.
DeleteIn previous years they would both get called up.....and sent back down.....several times.
DeleteMaybe we'll all live long enough for the Giants to have a Jac Caglionone to call up? Unfortunately that often take high draft picks.
