Spring Training Game Wrap 3/13/2026: Reds 1 Giants 0

The Reds scored a run in the first inning and made it stand up in a loss for the Giants in the road half of a split-squad doubleheader.  Key Lines;

Bryce Eldridge 1B- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .242.  The double left the bat at 111 MPH.  6 of Eldridge's 8 hits have gone for extra bases.

Carson Whisenhunt LHP- 3.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 9.64.  A far better start for Whiz than his last two.

Ryan Walker RHP- 1 IP, 0. H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 2/0 GO/AO.  ERA= 0.00.  Walker came into camp as the presumptive Closer.  So far, he has done nothing to lose that designation.

J. T. Brubaker RHP- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K's, 4/0 GO/AO.  ERA= 3.00.  Brubaker is on a MLB contract so he has a roster spot to lose.  So far he has done nothing to lose it.

Adrian Houser RHP gets the start at home in a televised game tomorrow in Scottsdale facing the D'Backs and Zac Gallen RHP.

Logan Webb RHP was electric for Team USA in a win over Team Canada in the WBC:  4.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, 4/1 GO/AO.

  1. Starting rotation is going to be Webb, Ray, Roupp, Mahle, McDonald. Houser is going to be long relief. I really like McDonalds stuff and him slogging through AAA and still getting his innings was a big part of his development. He gives me Logan Webb feels like when he earned the 5ths spot in 2021 spring training and never left the rotation.

    1. I am a big McDonald fan but the Giants did not sign Houser for $22 M to have him pitch out of the bullpen. Barring injury or a couple of poor starts by Roupp, McDonald will start the season in Sacramento or the bullpen.

    2. I remember last season wondering why it took the Giants so long to call up McDonald to the majors.

  2. Encouraging signs for Whizz in his past two starts. High k rates, very few hits, just needs to watch those BBs. I really hope he can put it all together this year. #4 or #5 starter would be huge for us.

  3. Stat correction: Whiz was actually really dominant his last start, better than this game. He had 3 innings, one hit, no walks, no runs and 5 k’s pitching the last time he played before this game. It was his first two starts that he did bad in. This was his fourth game he’s pitched.

  4. MLB predicts 7 Giants' rookies will play in the majors in 2026: Eldridge, Tidwell, Whisenhunt, McDonald, Rodriguez, Susac, and Harris.
    You'd think that Carson Seymour would still be a rookie with just 36 innings, well under the maximum limits set by MLB for rookie status (which is 50 innings pitched), but the days on roster (less than 45 days to be a rookie) must have gotten him.
