Jesus Rodriguez off to a slow start but bat came alive in the late innings and he hit the game-winning Sac Fly. Tidwell and McDonald two very different pitchers as evidenced by their reciprocal groundball/flyball ratios.

What is going on with Luis Matos? The Rockies should pick him up.
ReplyDeleteIs it the end-of-the-line when a player gets a minor league release?
ReplyDeleteIf Matos is picked up, wouldn't his new team have to play him through his huge "ups" and "downs" which he will surely have? He is no good to anyone sitting on a bench: he will be have to be played through his streaks or why have him? You don't have to be a Giant fan to know that's just Matos. It may well change as he gets older, he is just 24 yo, but he did the same thing this Spring: terrific, then terrible.
Usually a minor leaguer getting released is essentially the end of their pro career with few exceptions. Yes, Matos needs to go to a team that can afford to give him 600 PA's in a season.
DeleteIf he isn't picked up and kept for the entire season in MLB, does he come back to the Giants? Seems someone would try it — what's the risk?
DeleteIf Mato is not claimed by another team, I think the Giants can outright him to AAA and keep him in the organization. If another team claims him and then decides he's not working out, they would have to DFA him and make him available for another team to claim and the whole cycle repeats. Unlikely he would find his way back to the Giants in that situation.
DeleteIs there a deadline when teams must claim him before the Giants can outright him to AAA?
ReplyDeleteI think 10 days.
DeleteMatos traded to Brewers for cash considerations. Dylan Smith traded to Giants, Fitzgerald DFA'ed
