Game Wrap 6/21/2025: Giants 3 Red Sox 2

Home runs by Heliot Ramos and Rafael Devers supported Landen Roupp's excellent pitching and was enough to survive Camilo Doval's 9'th inning torture chamber.  Key Lines:

Heliot Ramos LF- 1 for 4, HR(13).  BA= .282.  I didn't think Heliot got all of this one but the ball seemed to get some extra carry.  I did notice that Heliot's front shoulder stays closed through his swing, something Willy Adames might want to pay attention to.

Rafael Devers DH- 1 for 4, HR(16).  BA= .267.  Devers' first home run as a Giant came with a runner on base and gave the Giants a 3-0 lead, one they would need every bit of by the end of the game.  The HR went to straightaway LF.  Kruk commented that about that about 50 or 20% of Devers' career 2016 HR's went oppo field.

Landen Roupp RHP- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.67.  I had my doubts in the first couple of innings but Roupp settled down and had all his pitches working for a better than Quality Start.  Roupp has a 2.50 ERA over his last 7 starts despite the disaster start in LA.

Camilo Doval RHP- 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K, Save(12).  ERA= 2.06.  Doval opened up with a leadoff double then two singles for one run.  Then a throwing error on a SB attempt let another run in and put a runner at 2B with one out.  Doval got out of it with a couple of ground outs. Whew!

Randy Rodriguez RHP and Tyler Rogers RHP pitched scoreless 7'th and 8'th innings respectively.

Nice win after yesterday's stinker.

Robbie Ray LHP tries to close out a series win tomorrow afternoon against Lucas Giolito RHP.

  1. The lack of strikeouts this season from Doval definitely is worrisome considering how elite he’s been at striking out in his career. Yes it’s possible to have a good season without the strike outs but it shows regression from him and it’s very probably it means there’s been some contact luck from him and that his era could rise drastically as the season progresses

    1. Doval is definitely benefiting from BABIP this season as compared with last season

  2. Giants appear incapable of moving the line, so thank the God of true outcomes for the Home Run. -es

  3. Ditto on Ramos homerun and I’m glad it went out of the park because the way he stood and watched it, he probably would have been thrown out at 2B. Guy is an emerging talent, but with his “adventures” in left field and baserunning miscues, he should be hustling out of the box better than that…

  4. Well Doc my pre-games predictions for the gam as posteed yesterday were mixed but ultimately we won despite Doval.
I called Roupp having good 6 innings.
I called Devers having breakout game >close but the homer is close to a breakout.
Finally Giants all hittinng up and down the lineup > not so mucch!
One extrra oft repeated comment > I EFFING hate Dovals demeanor on the mound. For Gods sake man act like you like your job.
I do not see him longterm the Giants/
