Game Wrap 5/1/2025: Rockies 4 Giants 3

Heliot Ramos led off the Giants half of the first inning with a home run but the lineup sputtered against Kyle Freeland after that. Tyler Rogers blew a 3-2 lead in the 8'th inning and that was the ballgame.  Key Lines:

Heliot Ramos LF- 1 for 4, HR(5).  BA= .248.  The HR ball left his bat at 112.8 MPH which Sara Langs reports is the hardest hit ball of his career.  He also made several excellent catches in LF to save runs.

Willy Adames 2 for 4.  BA= .218.  I am sure Adames is happy to bid goodbye to April.  The Giants desperately need his production to positively regress.

Wilmer Flores DH- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .239.  Wilmer was great for most of April but the Giants probably need a lefty bat to platoon with Wilmer at DH for long haul.

Mike Yastrzemski RF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .284.  YtY has been a bright spot so far.  Can he sustain it?  Probably as long as he remains healthy.

Justin Verlander RHP- 6.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's, 8/3 GO/AO.  ERA= 4.38.  This is exactly what the Giants hoped to get out of Verlander this season.  Bats and the bullpen need to step up and give him some support.

The Giants lose their 3'rd game in a row, this time against a team they should beat up on.  Robbie Ray LHP tries to get them back on the winning side of the ledger tomorrow evening facing Antonio Senzatela RHP.

Tyler Fitzgerald 2B was placed on the 10 day IL with a fractured rib apparently suffered in a diving attempt to catch a ball off the bat of Joc Pederson last weekend.  He played in both games in San Diego.  Ouch!  Brett Wisely IF was called up to replace him on the active roster.  Wisely and Christian Koss IF will likely form a strict R-L platoon at 2B until Fitz gets back.

  1. Tonight's loss was frustrating since this was the 2nd blown save already by good late inning relievers that prevented Verlander from winning the game. The Rockies had a good opposite field approach against Rogers which produced 2 solid rbi singles. Give them credit.

  2. I would consider giving Randy Rodriguez some looks in late innings situations since I think he has earned the right. I don't expect Patrick Bailey to be Buster Posey but, I do want him at least above the Mendoza line. I think it may be time to give Sam Huff more reps if the bat doesn't improve. .155 doesn't cut it for me.

  3. Time to move on from Rogers and bring up Hjelle?

  4. Do the Giants have a lefty bat to platoon with Wilmer at DH?

    1. Jake Lamb? He's not exactly tearing up the PCL.
