"When the Giants Come to Town..." is my blog intended to chronicle my thoughts on San Francisco Giants baseball. My special interest is in prospects and the farm system, but of course, will comment on all aspects of the San Francisco Giants. I will also comment on baseball in general, particularly from a fantasy baseball perspective. I hope you will find the site informative, and invite you to join in the discussion.

Scouting the 2020 Draft: Austin Wells
Austin Wells C, College(Arizona). B-L, T-R. 6'1", 200 lbs(Fangraphs).
2019(College): .353//462/.552, 15 2B, 7 3B, 5 HR, 6 SB, 46 BB, 43 K, 221 AB.
2019(CCL): .308 BA, 13 2B, 7 HR, 8 SB, 22 BB, 46 K, 156 AB.
The 2020 draft does not have a top tier catcher like Joey Bart or Adley Rutschman in the early rankings, but it has 4 who belong in the top 50 any of whom could catch helium leading up to draft day. Even better, all 4 either switch-hit or bat left-handed. Austin Wells is a draft-eligible sophomore from Arizona who won Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and backed that up by winning the Cape Cod League's Outstanding Pro Prospect Award. BTW, the Arizona website lists him at 6'2", 220 lbs while the CCL website lists him at 6'2", 205 lbs. Despite his size, he is fairly athletic behind the plate with enough speed to play corner OF while the bat may be enough to hold down 1B. I could see him getting into the top half of the first round with a strong sophomore campaign.
