Is Dakota Jordan the Giants CF of the future?

A: Ontario Tower Buzzers defeated the San Jose Giants 8-4.

Isaiah Barkett 2B- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(4).  BA= .333.
Dario Reynoso 3B- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .295.
Fernando Gonzalez C- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .323.
Argenis Cayama RHP- 4 IP, 1 H, 3 R, BB, 10 K's.  ERA= 5.79.
Ubert Mejias RHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.36.

I attended this game specifically to see Cayama pitch.  He was perfect through the first 11 batters he faced and with 9 K's,  then went HBP, BB, HR before striking out the final batter he faced.  His fastball topped out at 94 MPH but he mixed it well with secondary stuff with excellent command and a good feel for pitching.  Not sure if he was upset at hitting the batter and losing his perfect game or if he is just inexperienced pitching out of the stretch but he did seem to temporarily lose command after the HBP.  He looks noticeably bigger on the mound than Keyner Martinez and is 2 years younger, although Martinez throws up to 5 MPH harder now.

ACL:  Angels outscored the Giants 9-7.

Josuar Gonzalez 2B- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(1). BA= .476.
Luis Hernandez SS- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .444.
Yulian Barreto 3B- 2 for 4, SB(2).  BA= .345.
Luis Frias CF- 2 for 3, BB, SB(3).  BA= .348.

Wow! Gonzalez and Hernandez were already doing well then kicked it into orbit the last two games.   Gonzalez:  6 for 7, 2 2B, HR, 3 BB, SB.  Hernandez:  8 for 9, 4 2B, HR.

  1. Whisenhunt is leading AAA pitching in many categories including ERA and strikeouts. I remember last year he was similarly a league leader in AAA. Obviously in AAA if you are doing good as a pitcher you get called up. But still impressive and shows that Whisenhunt deserves a shot more than any other giants pitcher. McDonald has been getting dominated in AAA this here and last year while Whisenhunt is leading AAA in many statistics.

    1. My theory is McDonald's sinker-heavy approach performs better in major league ballparks which are mostly near sea level than in PCL parks which tend to be in higher, hotter and drier climates.

    2. That’s a sound theory. It just seems like Whisenhunt keeps getting overlooked by fans because of his numbers but it’s important for people to know that he’s been like the best pitcher in AAA the last two years.

    3. Whiz definitely has the stuff in individual games, his big problem has been consistently commanding it for more than 3-5 games at a time.. which he is showing now...You never know if and when it finally sticks with these young Pitchers...Keep throwing him out there in the PCL through June..There will be plenty of time in the lost season later on to give him a long run, especially after RAY and 1 of Hauser/Mahle is traded

  2. Have to say that I'm really surprised by the batting numbers by the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Can't remember when I've seen so many hitting that well there. Even at the other levels, it seems like the overall farm system for the Giants is doing better than usual.

    1. I am used to being happy with .250 at Richmond. I can't believe those numbers.

    2. It's been mostly good dry weather this spring in a brand spanking new ballpark which has helped a bit..For sure it has been a funner place to play..In any event, great to see almost every player smacking the crap out of the ball in Richmond like they have been in Eugene and SJ and ACL..

  3. What Jonah Cox is doing is crazy. Just went 3-5 to raise his average to .426.

  4. The Arteaga move may be the first domino. All SSs have been doing well below him. I wonder if they will all move one level up.

  5. AA: Is Jonah Cox the Giants CF of the future?
A: Is Dakota Jordan the Giants CF of the future?
Is either one the Giants CF of the future?
AAA: Is Grant McCray the Giants CF of the future?
AAA: Is Drew Gilbert the Giants CF of the future?
AAA: Is Turner Hill the Giants CF of the future?
It is appearing that McCray isn't.
Hill probably isn't either, his ship has most likely sailed.
    We can hope somebody is!
