Last night I discovered the Giants have a Jeremiah Jenkins 1B in Rookie ACL ball and Jeremiah Jones RHP, who hails from St Maarten, in the DSL.
I like Posey a lot and think he’s doing a fantastic job. But I do think he called up Eldridge too quickly to AAA. While he was doing good in AA, it was only 125 at bats which is absolutely nothing, and Eldridge was actually scuffling the last several games in AA before the call up. So it’s not like he was on a hot steak when he got promoted, he was in a cold streak. I’ve been following Giants minor league ball closely for almost 20 years and in AA, lots of players in the past have done good the first 100 at bats in small sample size and then struggle the rest of the season to the point where their numbers aren’t good. Baseball is a marathon and Eldridge barely started the marathon in AA, plus he was drafted out of high school and this is only his second year in minor league ball so the long season could easily wear him out even though he’s a big guy. I think Posey saw the struggling performance of the Giants first basemen in the majors and the fan base raving about Eldridge and caved into the pressure to call him up. Definitely that was a little bit of a Farhan move. No way Eldridge is getting called up this season if he’s struggling in AAA, which he currently is. And there’s no shame in that, he’s going to be age 20 all season long. Orioles messed up Jackson Holliday by calling him up way too early which resulted in a terrible year last year and an avarrage year so far this year, and the worst part is that Holliday is 21 all year long and they already jump started his major league service time which means that he’s going to be a free agent and paid sooner rather than later and that they are wasting his service time years getting average to below average production from him. They could’ve just let him cook in the minors and learn how to grind out the long long seasons there which would better prepare him for the grind of the majors instead of having him struggle in the big league club. Heliot Ramos is doing good with us and it’s my opinion that all those years of grinding in the minors prepared him for the majors
ReplyDeleteI don''t disagree with any of that. My timetable for Eldridge would have been to keep him at AA until the middle of August then promote him to AAA to give him a months head start for next season.
DeleteEldridge had been zooming up the minors the past year...Finally struggling jsut a tad in AAA this year at 3 for 26...Good for him to be facing the challenge and hopefully not being rushed to SF..
ReplyDeleteAnd you want to see some good consistent hitting? BO DAVIDSON

Can't wait to se him in Richmond.
Whoever scouted this guy at Caldwell Community College in NC deserves a big bonus!!

Eldridge being called up to AAA was not necessarily just because of Eldridge's offense. They wanted to give JT Snow and Ron Wotus easier access to Eldridge to work with him on his fielding. Easier for the coaches to give him more focused instruction in Sacramento. This is not a Farhan move.
ReplyDeleteMarco Luciano at a 205/323/384 slash. The eye seems to be his only tool at this point.
ReplyDeleteHe might be a change of scenery candidate a la Bart. Sadly.

Gotta believe Luciano head is all messed up from an egregious lack of continuity in his development.
DeleteMore roster moves: San Francisco Giants placed C Patrick Bailey on the 10-day injured list retroactive to June 8, 2025. Neck strain.
ReplyDeleteSan Francisco Giants selected the contract of C Logan Porter from Sacramento River Cats.
