Game Wrap 5/31/2025: Marlins 1 Giants 0

The day after they scraped together 2 runs to give Kyle Harrison LHP and six relievers a 2-0 win, the Giants lineup went stone cold again in a disheartening 1-0 loss.  Key Lines:

LineupHeliot Ramos LF, Jung Hoo Lee CF and Matt Chapman 3B had 2 hits each.  There were no XBH's.  Ramos and Lee also drew walks and Willy Adames SS drew 2 walks.  Again, the problem was not so much getting runners on base but not getting them home.  In fairness, Tyler Fitzgerald 2B and Lee both hit balls that had distance and EV to be XBH's but Marlins OF's made great plays on.

Robbie Ray LHP- 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 2.43.  A pair of 2-out walks and a single in the second inning was Ray's downfall but allowing just one run in 7 IP should get you a W.

It doesn't get any easier tomorrow on a Getaway Sunday with Hayden Birdsong RHP facing Ryan Weathers LHP who comes in with an ERA of 1.15.

  2. Bases loaded. 1 out. First inning. Adames up. Strikeout. There's the game, right there. Not happy. Ray deserved the victory.

    1. Not all just Adames (although his lack of "clutch" is unbearable) but Flores and Yaz also left runners in scoring position in the 1st inning: those are the Giants meat and they ended up sausage.
Flores of course managed to hit into a DP with a runner on and no outs.
Chapman is thrown out stretching a single with no outs but that usually works.
Fitz K's with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position.
Yaz misses out on another RISP. He's in a deep slump.
Fitz wiffs again with a RISP.
CBS Sports shows 19 LOB let by Yaz and Fitz with 5 ea.

    2. Yaz first-pitch swinging after the walk to Adames in the 8th. (Yep, 1st was open for the walk to Adames...but take a strike, buddy...he swung at a marginal pitch to pop it up...)

Wilmer, 11 GIDP, approaching his career best in May...as Kruk would say, "penthouse or outhouse..."

  3. There aren't many things in baseball that are certain, but if you don't score, you don't win, if your opponent doesn't score, you win, pitching can only carry you so far, and the Giants are unwatchable!

  4. Oh, and Adames struck out chasing two pitches easily out of the zone. Makes me even more upset.

  5. Ramos and Lee at the top of the order got on base 6 times (2 hits each plus Ramos got a walk and a HBP) and Flores, Adames, and Yastrzemski couldn't move them along.
It could be chalked it up to good pitching but the Marlins pitchers put 13 runners on base (8 hits, 4 walks, and a hit batter) but stopped them dead at 3rd base?

  6. Watch Adames and Yaz in the box >Adames upright and waggling the bat right up until the pitch delivered > Yaz waggling the bat down in front of his legs till the pitch is thrown > they are not prepared. Some of this has to be on Burrell.
OBTW > to Giants are unwatchable >then dont watch them.
Damn good pitching number 3 in the majors.
Buster and crew will work this out.
One final thought >Lamont needs week or 2 on the bench > play Schmidt daily for a week or 2.

    1. When pitches are coming at 100 MPH you better be in your stance before the starts his delivery. It looks to me like Adames front shoulder flies open too soon.

  7. Such great pitching, both starting and relief, being wasted..So much pressure on them every game..Won't be long before they crack and have a a bad stretch..A few hits lately from CHap (hopefully a good sign that he is climbing out) but the offenseve black holes at 1B, C, SS, even YAZ going down the hole would sink any team..And I reallly don't feel confident that Encarnacion or Lucianno or Meckler or whoever in the organization is any part of an answer....Hoping for a shutout for Birdsong today!!!
