As a commenter mentioned after yesterday's post, there is an interesting article by Maria Guardado on sfgiants.com about the Giants scouts who discovered Bo Davidson.  If you think scouts are completely emotionless, dispassionate evaluators who don't allow themselves the luxury of irrational exuberance, read that article and be disabused of that notion.  I just hope the comp to Barry Bonds doesn't get into his head because that's an unfair comp to lay on anybody, let alone a young prospect like Bo.

  1. Doc Thanks for mentioning great Bo Davidson article. The Giants scout who signed him has been a MLB scout for over 30 years., so its something for him to get that excited about a young prospect.

  2. This begs the question, why didn't they draft him?

    1. Good question. l wondered the same thing. Maybe they knew they didn't need to? That's a heckuva risk to take if they think he's the next Barry Bonds!

    2. If you Google Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, a 2-year junior college founded in 1964, for Notable Alumni and Graduates you find Dana Boone: A 2009 graduate who is now a Senior Director of Brand, Social Media, and Influencer Strategy at JCPenney.
Sportswise, CCC&TI competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in men's basketball, baseball, women's volleyball and softball.
Baseball-Reference, for all pro players in their data base shows: Bo Davidson SFG.
Perhaps the question should be how did Paul Faulk happen to find him and why was he scouting Caldwell Community College?

    3. He was scouting an opposing player and Bo caught his eye.

  3. Heard Pavs on his Giants talk podcast say something interesting that it wouldn't surprise him after talking to people if Bryce Eldridge is called up to AAA soon. They're happy with his season so far and moving him to Sacramento would make it easier for instructors and FO personal to see him in person. Surprising since Buster has said they would stop fast tracking prospects. You may disagree with this upcoming 2025 draft opinion. This draft has reportedly has 1 1st round catcher Luke Stevenson UNC a lefthanded hitter. If the Giants feel that he is the best player available when they pick #13 they should consider taking him to push Patrick Bailey to improve his hitting . 180 is not going to cut it. He is doing great at his more important job of handling the pitching staff. Pavs also mentioned that maybe being fast tracked hurt his hitting development. FZ made mistakes fast tracking too many prospects sad to say.
