I like his ability to strike out batters while not walking many, too bad he was not ready when we needed a starter. Though they could bring him up to be the long-guy to replace Gaudin's spot while he's starting.

Wow, that is beyond dream, more like alternative universe.

Villalona hitting great (for EL) .267/.343/.500/.843, but with 11 K's in only 30 AB's. The good news is that 9 of those happened in first 17 AB's, only 2 out of 13 since. Small samples, but got to start being good somewhere. And 5 XBH out of 8 total, just killing the ball. Doing much better than I could have hoped given his long cold streak in San Jose just before his call-up, it does appear that he either got bored or down because he didn't get promoted or both.

What's wrong with Blanco? He's hitting .279/.343/.377/.720 (average CF hitting .256/.321/.394/.715). And since Pagan has been out his OBP has been .331, which is exactly what the average leadoff hitter has been doing in the NL. And if you are just going to jettison him at the end of the season, he's good enough that we should be able to get something for him, as he has great defense too, as Hairston netted a prospect in exchange. Like Hairston, he's a perfectly good platoon complementary OF, he is currently hitting .290/.343/.393/.736 batting against RHP, which would have been his full-time role in LF if Pagan didn't blow out his leg for most of the season, if not all.

If you think Pegs is ready to deliver that now or even next year, then I would say you are most probably wrong. I love Pegs defense but he only muster .762 OPS in AAA, his MLB OPS would be much much lower than that. I think he can eventually get to Blanco's level, but probably not until 2015, his offensive value relies solely on his ability to hit the ball for contact and run up a high .300+ batting average because he don't walk nor does he get that many XBH's.

I would rather put Brown through another AAA season and learn how to read pitchers and use his speed to steal bases. Plus, he still hasn't mastered hitting in AAA, why sit him on the bench in majors in 2014 when he still has development he still needs to do?

And Angel still strikes out way too much in Advanced A to do much in the majors in 2014, I think. Both he and Brown look more like 2015 potentials, Panik too, and none of them are strong potentials, I think, they all need to prove themselves at each level before getting moved up. Villalona would need to go on a hot hitting spree for Richmond in the rest of July, like he did in SJ, blasting close to 10 homers in a month, to get me to even think 2014 is a possibility, let alone the start of 2014.obsessivegiantscompulsivehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11362706004246875823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-8728656749522083792013-07-09T12:36:24.982-07:002013-07-09T12:36:24.982-07:00Thanks for that report. Thanks for that report.DrBGiantsfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10699322384438591979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-47907338148812140252013-07-09T12:35:48.536-07:002013-07-09T12:35:48.536-07:00I would definitely put all that in the dream categ...I would definitely put all that in the dream category.DrBGiantsfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10699322384438591979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-14463901095796895502013-07-09T11:09:28.621-07:002013-07-09T11:09:28.621-07:00The homerun Dominguez hit was a 3-run bomb in the ...The homerun Dominguez hit was a 3-run bomb in the bottom of the first inning. Greenberg said it went 420 feet and it nearly splashed in the pool that is behind the left center field fence. It was off a hanging off-speed pitch. Petit looked good. He was hitting the corners with his fastball. Brown had his 14th outfield assist in the 7th inning as he gunned down a runner attempting to score from second on a single up the middle. When the ball was hit I thought the Aces had their 3rd run, but Brown came up throwing and put his entire body into the throw that was just slightly up the 3rd base line and allowed Monel to make an easy tag on the runner. Giants start Chris D. at 3b and we're fine.
Angel V continues to tear up EL. Giants gamble on him next year at 1b and he pays off big. Giants move Belt to LF and he's fine too.
Pagan comes back, Brown and Pegs make up quality OFs. Torres and Blanco traded or let go at end of year.
Qualifying offer to Pence, and we get a sandwich pick.
Trade of Timmy for quality MLs.
Trade a LR and bring up Runzler for quality MLs.

Surkamp takes over Zito's spot. Gaudin keeps the 4th spot (now held by Vogey), and we have enough money to get a decent 5th starter. Draftniks complain about the Giants not getting "value" and the old saw about not developing hitters comes out. Well, the Giants snagged Williamson early, but he's looking like a much better bet than the super smart Tampa Bay Rays with Richie Shaffer, the 25th overall pick. Shaffer has a 249/302/372 line, with 5 HR/20BB/67K in high-A ball. Mac is at 273/362/475, with 15HR/31BB/82K, also in high-A ball. Williamson was 90 picks after Shaffer.

Very glad to see the 2 early picks start to hit. My white whale Travis Demeritte sure has come out hot for the Rangers.

Does Ryan Jones need a promotion to SJ?
