My first reaction was that the Giants should stay far away from him. After digging a bit, though, I noticed his Cape Cod BA and his excellent K/BB there, albeit small sample size.

I think his junior year performance is worth watching and I would not be shocked if the Giants statisticians are looking at that K/BB because they have been targeting hitters like that recently.

I would also point out, as somone else already did that a .400 BA in college does not guarantee success and the Giants have had some success drafting guys with mediocre college BA's such as Crawford, Belt and Williamson.

All I'm saying is I'm keeping an open mind on Fisher.DrBGiantsfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10699322384438591979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-343100768876299812013-12-05T13:27:20.076-08:002013-12-05T13:27:20.076-08:00Here is the first sentence of this post:

Unfortunately for the Mariners, that .400+ avg for Dustin Ackley in college hasn't materialized into a .300+ hitter yet.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-11447161326714101252013-12-05T10:43:19.017-08:002013-12-05T10:43:19.017-08:00Well, he seems to scout better than his performan...Well, he seems to scout better than his performance, as you say, DrB.

Perhaps we put aside his stats, progressive or otherwise, for now and hear what professional scouts have to say.BuyLowSellLowernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-15535782814964661102013-12-05T09:43:44.100-08:002013-12-05T09:43:44.100-08:00Mac Williamson wouldn't be a first rounder tho...Mac Williamson wouldn't be a first rounder though, because of his age issues. That's what is great about the Giants, they don't penalize youth as much as the more progressive stat-nerd study believing FOs. Sure, the BBCOR bats have stiff armed power some, and the new baseballs will do something new. But BA is BA, and I'm sorry, 290s BA in college is not first round material unless the power is crazy.Shankbonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04803824507120403397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-56319588113514755442013-12-05T08:56:18.127-08:002013-12-05T08:56:18.127-08:00I'd agree with you Shankbone, and that was my ...I'd agree with you Shankbone, and that was my first impression too, but didn't they change the college bats a couple years ago to be less explosive? I believe hitting numbers have gone down as a result. Based on those numbers, even with the bat change, not a first rounder, IMO.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-8722670646372913372013-12-05T07:43:43.186-08:002013-12-05T07:43:43.186-08:00If Mac Williamson had been a first rounder, I don&...If Mac Williamson had been a first rounder, I don't think we'd be complaining. Between the BBCOR bats and raised seams on the balls, college baseball has become very pitcher friendly in the last few years. Let's see how Fisher does with another year of experience and the new baseballs. I can see the Giants statheads being in love with the K/BB. Ooh! It feels so good to say that! Giants statheads, that is.DrBGiantsfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10699322384438591979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-83035743899447167992013-12-05T06:42:38.512-08:002013-12-05T06:42:38.512-08:00We want nothing to do with this guy.
