The problem is historically Line Drive percentages are bit untrustworthy in the minors where scorers tend to vary in their interpretations more widely than in the bigs. Fortunately, the big club looks like it has some decent bullpen depth as it heads for summer, and Sabean should be able to snag some reinforcements at the deadline if he needs to. When they have very good seasons, which is often, they're usually doing it with a high BABIP. Personally, I believe that BABIP is NOT something that is out of the control of the hitter. When you hit the ball harder, greater percentage of line-drives, greater bat control - it leads to more hits on the balls you put in play. As opposed to lesser hitters who squib the ball or fly out a greater percentage of the time.

This seems perfectly possible to prove with stats, but I'm not going to be the guy to do it.. LOL

(However, all that said, .385 is a very high BABIP, and yes, Duffy is bound to have an off month at some point where his numbers will return to earth. Right now, count me as impressed, regardless of BABIP.)RainBallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00725941337502884436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-60061692114601328532014-06-11T12:56:29.522-07:002014-06-11T12:56:29.522-07:00Maybe Duffy can develop into a Matt Carpenter-lite...Maybe Duffy can develop into a Matt Carpenter-lite super utility player down the road... great player to have on the rosterbaseballjunkienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-64519558846980839952014-06-11T12:55:54.840-07:002014-06-11T12:55:54.840-07:00Doc, I was tryin gto be funny, no hits for panik i...Doc, I was tryin gto be funny, no hits for panik in last game reported by you.
Sorry, I will check mt sense of humour on my door knob

Richard in WinnipegAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-48942552732055273982014-06-11T12:51:18.080-07:002014-06-11T12:51:18.080-07:00DrB, I know you're not a fan of using BABIP as...DrB, I know you're not a fan of using BABIP as a predictor of future performance, but Duffy has a BABIP of .385 this year (.316 for his MiLB career).Howienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-33109397596966544682014-06-11T12:31:30.531-07:002014-06-11T12:31:30.531-07:00????????DrBGiantsfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10699322384438591979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-72887045444493911582014-06-11T09:42:38.443-07:002014-06-11T09:42:38.443-07:00Duffy controls the strike zone, has played good SS...Duffy controls the strike zone, has played good SS, and just straight up hits.
