His coach at UCF Greg Lovelady said scouts are intrigued by Bahr’s size, 6-foot-6, and his velocity — his fastball can top out at 96 mph — but there are questions about his inexperience. Bahr, a redshirt junior, only has one full season of college baseball under his belt. However, he led the pitching staff with 98 strikeouts. “We’re sitting in here trying to figure out if we’re going to get him back or not,” Lovelady said. “Wouldn’t be shocked if somebody was like, ‘Look, this guy is going to be a dude’ and takes him in the third to fifth round. … There’s no way there’s 300-something better prospects in the draft. It’s really hard to teach 6-6 and 96. That’s not something that just grows on trees.”
Here is a scouting report for him from 2013 coming out of high school posted on the site Perfect Game.
Jason Bahr is a 2013 RHP/1B with a 6-4 170 lb. frame from Longwood, FL who attends Lake Mary HS. Tall lanky projectable build. Long arm action, three quarter arm slot, good movement on fastball, can cut it or run it to either side. Good shape and spin on 11-5 curveball up to 68, solid changeup at 71. Pitches downhill, good extension, loose arm action, online delivery. Excellent student.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/ucf-knights/os-sp-ucf-mlb-draft-0612-story.html
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/ucf-knights/os-sp-ucf-baseball-0421-story.html
Eriknoreply@blogger.com
