By "even out" I didn't mean that they achieve objective truth, if in fact there is such a thing with our current state of knowledge and the divergent sources of value. I meant that diversifying what you rely on is the best way to lessen the distortion that idiosyncrasies produce, and that in baseball evaluations one can easily diversify.campanarinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-11697843630766416262014-09-15T17:13:21.029-07:002014-09-15T17:13:21.029-07:00Not to disagree with your overall point, but the i...Not to disagree with your overall point, but the idea that the biases built into the different systems "even out if you average them is itself an assumption.DrBGiantsfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10699322384438591979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-43569273959150364042014-09-15T13:01:15.552-07:002014-09-15T13:01:15.552-07:00Agreed. There are also other measures of the components of WAR, such as Baseball Prospectus' Value over Replacement. Using these various systems to complement each other introduces more subjectivity, in deciding how to weight each in one's final analysis, but also permits the biases built into individual systems to be evened out. And of course any of these systems improves vastly on amateur over-the-cracker-barrel opining.campanarinoreply@blogger.com
