So then an incentive laden contract puts management and the player into especially antagonistic positions to fight over playing time. He knows that he needs something guaranteed kennvhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17546434201339463323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-38822602825027789362016-09-28T17:43:48.312-07:002016-09-28T17:43:48.312-07:00Pagan was playing really well early in the season....Pagan was playing really well early in the season. His defense in LF was good and he had a positive DRS and other good metrics. He was hitting well most of the time. So I was kind of open to him staying.

But he missed the last week of May and half of June with a hamstring strain and some other time due to 'general soreness' or some such. But since he came back, while he's been about the same at the plate, his defense has gone south and now he's in negative DRS land and his other defensive metrics have declined.

So I think it's time to move on. Is something like this possible for an injury prone OFer?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-44493229152110192962016-09-28T14:17:53.734-07:002016-09-28T14:17:53.734-07:00Pagan has had a negative defensive fWAR for a few ...Pagan has had a negative defensive fWAR for a few years, and is at -3.0 now, despite the move to an easier position. I don't think he hits well enough to overcome this deficit. He is at 1.5 fWAR now, below the usual norm of 2.0 fWAR for a starting position player. We can and should do better, I think.campanarinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-1297770296483559952016-09-28T13:09:43.027-07:002016-09-28T13:09:43.027-07:00Now that was a great game. Moore was outstanding. With the improvement to his cutter and Shark's curveball, the rotation should be an absolute beast next season ( And in the playoffs if the hitting holds up.). After this year I know that many people will want to comma butt you cannot forget the other years of the contract or he spit large parts of the season on the disabled list. That is far more common and what I will remember about angel. It is great to finally see him have an awesome year where is health is more intact comma but it's time to move on and let guys like Parker & Williamson solidify for the job. Plus we are also excited to see Slater up here eventuallyAnthillunda2ndnoreply@blogger.com
