It's looks like it's been a trai...Yeah... It's looks like it's been a train-wreck. But when you think about it.. THere are only 25 players on a club. So if quality players have careers spanning 10-to-15 years... You're only looking at needing one-to-two quality successes from your entire farm system, per year, to maintain your winning team.

And they may come from 11-20 (or even lower)... Derek Law #25 in 2015 (#16 in 2014). Matt Duffy, #17 in 2014. Hunter Strickland (#13 in 2014). Kelby Tomlinson (was he ever ranked?). Trevor Brown (was he ever ranked?).

Or they maybe they're used to bring in players. Matt Duffy & Lucius Fox turned into Matt Moore. Tommy Joseph and Nate Schierholtz turned into Hunter Pence. Adam Duvall turned into Mike Leake. And while not all trades work to our favor, you can't know until later and none of them were particularly insane.

But the ranking system doesn't always get it right as it's too 5-Tools oriented (IMO). Brandon Belt was in AAA in 2011. He didn't make the Top-10. I guess he's shown them...

And Crawford... I don't know where he was ranked at MLB, it certainly wasn't Top-10 in 2011 when he was called up out of AAA (where he was hitting .224), but I know most people gave him fairly low prospect grades because he just didn't hit in the higher levels of the minors.

So maybe the Top-10 isn't working out as well as the prospect-rankers call it. But the farm is, generally speaking, doing a good job. I think there are going to be some tough decisions come cut time and the club should come out stronger this year than last. Also saw where Pagan is still looking for a team thought the Nats have some interest. I would have thought he would have landed somewhere by now on a short term deal. Not sure he's not better than a couple of outfielders we have, assuming he'd take a bench role.

Billy BaseballAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-48100992916912965412017-02-27T12:08:05.083-08:002017-02-27T12:08:05.083-08:00I think I recently read that Evans, or maybe it wa...I think I recently read that Evans, or maybe it was Bochy, was on record saying that Williamson could use a little more AAA time if he doesn't take the job out-right. So I agree that it's probably Parker's to lose.

MosesZDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12702323080585738748noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-3137612470800539662017-02-27T11:03:58.550-08:002017-02-27T11:03:58.550-08:00In spite of the dearth in competition (Cincinnati ...In spite of the dearth in competition (Cincinnati and the Cubs B team), winning beats losing, and there have been some really good vibes and only Matt Reynolds has really been completely disappointing (although all the damage to him was done by RHBs if that's at all mitigating).
Here's a look at MLBs Giants preseason top 10s for the last 6 years:
http://mlb.mlb.com/assets/images/2/4/6/217252246/cuts/giants_top_10_tmwmsafw_n7ynn05w.jpg
Some sobering names in there, with only Panik and Duffy Top 10 impact players, maybe Blach, Williamson, Okert, and ALL TEN of the 2017 group will join their ranks!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
