Why would the Giants trade that away? We better be getting a lot in return for that, though again, I'm not sure why anyone would want to take on the risks inherent with giving away the bird in the hand for the two in the bush, as the Reds found out with trading Hamilton, they might have won one already if they had not.

He's frequently over the top...

Yeah, really weird that they would promote him in the middle of a big slump, he's been 5 for 37 with no XBH in his last 9 games, .135/.175/.135/.310, and he hasn't had an XBH for 17 games now, during which he has hit .174/.247/.174/.421 (since June 7th).

My best guess would be that they wanted to promote him sooner but for some reason wasn't ready to send down Oropesa yet. Plus, even with the slump, he has hit .259/.303/.498/.801 since he got over his early struggles, with 14 HR in 243 AB (17 AB/HR=40 HR seasonal rate). Perhaps he got bored and started getting sloppy in his ABs, as he was very dominant up to this slump: .293/.326/.626/.953 with 14 HR in 174 AB (13 AB/HR=50 HR seasonal rate). obsessivegiantscompulsivehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11362706004246875823noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7389427040394111033.post-27086841628467118132013-06-30T19:46:03.483-07:002013-06-30T19:46:03.483-07:00hey anon,

In the comments it says that baggs posted on his twitter that arenado's brother, Nolan, said johan was jacked that he was signed by the giants and than he thinks he will sign. And I guess Johan doesn't have a commitment to a 4 year college, or a juco. The Grizz hitters could do nothing against Grube (31 year old minor league journeyman). Against an effective slider Chris Dominguez was back to his flayling away ways - he struck out and hit a weak grounder to the 3rd baseman. His homerun was against a reliever and it was a hanging off speed pitch that he put over the left field fence. Fleet has been moved between starter and reliever in AAA - not sure what they have in store for him - there is still potential for a major league role. Roger K has been in the midst of a bad slump - going something like 0 for 18 before getting a couple of hits on Friday night. He was back to swinging at pitches in the dirt last night. He certainly isn't putting up numbers that would warrant a promotion to the Bigs. There are plenty of outfielders in the G's system with similer skill sets - tall, skinny, fast, some power, good arms (Roger K, Jarret Parker, Mac Williamson, Devon Harris) - hopefully one of them will blossum. The only knock is he's old for the Eastern and as a minor league vet he's expected to put up big #s. For all the doom and gloom about our hitters all the time, we have Minicozzi at 4th in OPS (922) (non-prospect alas), Herrera at 8th in OPS (907) and Susac 12th in OPS (850) (young for the league and a bonafide grade A prospect, read it an weep).

We are way out of short samples. Andrew Susac is one of the best 10 catchers in the minors. I'll take him over oft-injured oft-traded Travis d'Arnaud, Gary Sanchez or Tommy Joseph. Mayo has the #10 catching prospect as CO's Will Swanner. Swanner is currently hitting 239 in the CA league. I'm not sure if I like Austin Hedges more than Susac, but he is younger. Same goes for Stryker Trahan. But Susac is doing just fine, just fine. There are several possible reasons: 1. The Giants have significantly less money to spend than a lot of teams due to the new rules. 2. The Giants signed one of the biggest names last year and their pattern has been to do this on an every 2-3 year basis. They may be sitting the big names out this year by choice.

I expect them to sign several prospects in the $100-500 K range rather than any top 30 guys.
