The rap was that he needed time to develop. He started slow in college and then built up. He is speedy, has a little pop. I think his poor S/K season and then rookie ball before SJ really quieted the enthusiasm for him.

Here are the SS's drafted before him in 2010, in order of being picked: Manny Machado, Christian Colon, Matt Lipka, Taylor Lindsay, Marcus Littlewood, Andrelton Simmons, Niko Goodrum, Derek Dietrich, Angelo Gumbs, Michael Antonio, Anthony Walters, Chris Hawkins, Devin Lohman, Ryan Brett, Jake Realmato and then Jurica. There was some more run on SS's right after young Carter: Samuel Tuivailala, Josh Rutledge, Sean Coyle, Wendell Soto to round out the 3rd.

So 2 big names in Machado and Simmons. Garin Cecchini was drafted by the Red Sox in the 4th and has made some noise as a prospect. But overall, maybe the Giants saw some value there. They took him instead of the power bat they usually look at in the 3rd round. Shankbonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04803824507120403397noreply@blogger.com
